Rumour Mill-Bailing out Bailey?

29 year old midfielder, Nicky Bailey is currently available on a free transfer after leaving Middlesbrough at the end of last season. It would appear a mumber of Championship clubs including Burnley could be interested in signing the former Charlton player including North West rivals, Blackburn and Bolton.

Relegated duo Reading and Queens Park Rangers, along with Ipswich, and former club Charlton are also believed to be monitoring the situation according to Sky Sports.

Bailey started his career in the youth team at Fulham before joining non-league Sutton United. In 2004 he joined Conference side, Barnet. His next move was in July 2007 when he signed for League One,Southend for a fee of 175,000. Championship football was to follow when he signed for Charlton Athletic on a three-year contract for a fee with add-ons of about 750,000 in August 2008. That season he was top scorer for the Addicks but couldn't prevent them from being relegated to League One.

In July 2010, Bailey signed for Middlesbrough for a fee of 1.4m and scored his first goal for Middlesbrough annoyingly against the Clarets in September 2011. New manager, Tony Mowbray converted him into a more defence-minded midfielder before he was released at the end of the 2012-13 season.

Another player potentially past his best at 29? Bit worried about the callbre of player we seem to be linked with! Basically, getting on and free!Probably accept a lower salary too

He was once a player I rated - Dont recall seeing him play for a while!
Claretdale
Whatever happened to that policy a couple of seasons or so ago to reduce the average age of the squad?
turfmanphil
Do you not think that went to far Phil?

It was Eddies plan to field a youthful squad and also many years ago I remember of a certain Jimmy Adamson. It worked well with just a couple of older heads and I hoped it would again?
