Going North West for Two Further Friendlies!

Going North West for Two Further Friendlies!

The club have confirmed two further pre-season friendlies in July.

Burnley will travel to Morecambe`s Globe Arena on Tuesday, July 9 (7.45pm KO) and ticket details are still to be advised. This is actually our second visit to the League 2 club's relatively new stadium opened in August 2010. Nearly three years ago we beat the Shrimps 3-1 in the 1st round tie in the Carling Cup Our first friendly against the Shrimps came in 2009 when we won 3-1 at their former ground, Christie Park.

The Morecambe game will be followed by the recently announced trip to Cork involving a game against Cork City on Monday, July 15 (7pm KO).

After returning from Ireland, the Clarets will then play League One, Carlisle United at Brunton Park on Saturday, July 20 (3pm KO). Ticket details once again will be advised in due course. We last visited Brunton Park during the 1997/98 season. Chris Waddle was the Burnley gaffer at the time and we sadly lost 2-1.

As previously announced, Burnley will end their pre-season preparations with a home game against Sparta Rotterdam at Turf Moor on Saturday, July 27 (3.30pm KO).

Further friendlies, including a date and opponents for Brian Jensen`s testimonial are yet to be confirmed.

Looks a better pre-season schedule than last season to be honest!

Brendan wanted to build links in America, John B's networking was in in Singapore, Eddie wanted to spend the summer nearer to family down south, and Sean is showing that what he said when appointed is true. He likes the north! Though not as far north as Owen took us when he was choosing. When was the last time we didn't have a game at Accrington, Bury or Rochdale pre-season?

Not sure but it sounds like more friendlies are still to be announced so the three local clubs might still be an option although I would prefer some Championship opposition! Maybe one of Dyche's former clubs? Watford (unless they go up), Forest,? Would love Northampton too, down the road and never been

We wont play anyone in the Championship TMP ( or should I say I would be very surprised if we did). Havent we played Alty aswell as Accy fairly regular in pre-season too?

In the meantime, I was delighted to see on the official site today that a portrait of former gaffer Spen Whittaker is to be hung in a prominent position on the Turf. His great-grandchildren have generously donated the family heirloom 103 years after his tragic death, falling from a train. These days our gaffers only seem to fall from grace, and a sizeable chunk of our fans seem to routinely want to arrange for their hanging in prominent positions on the Turf rather sooner, if only out to dry.

Not a massive surprise that SD likes 'the North' given that he is from Chesterfield. Not exactly Aberdeen..nor is it Portsmouth!
