Gifton Goal Williams

What a difference a couple of days makes!

Booed onto the pitch on Saturday, as he made his sub appearance against Colchester, Gifton Noel-Williams hit back at his critics in the best possible fashion tonight, scoring a second half hat trick as the Clarets capped a memorable comeback against Barnsley.

Things looked bleak for the Clarets when danger man Michael McIndoe scored twice in the opening half an hour to give the visitors a strong looking lead.

But a Jon Harley goal on half time gave Burnley hope, the left back scored with a slide rule free kick.

The second half was all about Gifton though, as the striker, who has been touted with a move to all sorts of clubs after being transfer listed at the end of last season, turned back the years, and showed the enormous potential he showed as a youngster to net a hat trick to sink Barnsley, and hit back at his critics, many of whom sit in the crowd at Turf Moor.

On his equaliser, his team mates rushed to the corner to celebrate with him, as he scored his first goal in over a year, showing a good team spirit as he powerfully headed in past the keeper.

He added a second, crashing a Micah Hyde pull back in off the bar, and completed a hat trick, as he stopped to meet a mis-hit Hyde shot, and left to the pitch to a rousing ovation.

It's the Clarets first win in 6, and a welcome boost after the disappointing home defeats to Wolves, Hartlepool and Colchester.

How quickly things can turn around for a player. As mentioned above, booed on saturday, perhaps some fans thought about booing him again, but the 3 goals he scored might put some doubt as to whether he desrves to be on the transfer list now. Up to Cotterill to decide!

Indeed, how quickly players fortunes can change. Well played Gifton! Now for the hard part...claiming a place in the starting line-up.

I just hope the boo boys who disgraefully booed GNW onto the pitch last Saturday now feel thouroughly ashamed of themselves! Well done Gifton. He was MoM in my opinion at Colchester, let alone Barnsley! Keep it up lad, lets hope you can find the consistency that would allow SC to feel confident about taking you off the transfer list!
