Burnley X-Files: Grezza for Mellon at Fleetwood!

Graham Alexander has replaced fellow former Claret Micky Mellon as the new gaffer at League 2 club,Fleetwood Town.

Mellon left the club at the weekend. He was sacked following the Highbury club's FA Cup exit to Aldershot last Saturday. Fleetwood aka as 'The Cod Army' are currently seventh in the League Two table following their promotion from Blue Square Bet Premier last season.

Grezza, now 41 retired from playing at the end of last season and was working as the head of youth at Preston North End until his new appointment at Fleetwood this week. The appointment is Alexander's first permanent managerial role in professional football.

The Scot who clocked up 1,024 professional appearances before announcing his retirement took joint-caretaker charge at deepdale with yet another former Claret, David Unsworth last season following the sacking of Phil Brown. The Deepdale club lost just one of his five games in charge. Curiously Phil Brown was also in contention for the Fleetwood job but lost out to Grezza. Brown is now expected to be named new manager at Limerick in Ireland (What a comedown!!)

Excellent stuff! Best of Luck Grezza!

The best of luck to one of the best players I have seen in a Burnley shirt. To be honest I would have been quite happy if he got the job here, but maybe it would be better for him to start lower in the leagues. I have no doubt that he will be a great manager. Congratulations Grezza !!

Can see it now. Grezza leads Fleetwood to victory in the pre-season West Lancashire Cup with a resounding 2-2 (aet) win against Thornton and Cleveleys. Before long the Dyche Out brigade are up and running after the former Watford man fails to win every game 5-0 and We Want Alexander noises start to gather momentum.
