Clarets International- Northern Irish Laffs!

Danny Lafferty has been called up to Northern Ireland`s squad for their World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan in Belfast on Wednesday night.

Lafferty has been promoted from the stand-by list after other injuries in the squad forced manager, Michael O`Neill`s hand.

He has spent most of the season sidelined mainly due to the form of both Joseph Mills and Ben Mee but a recent injury to Ben Mee has given him the chance to shine and on Saturday he made his first start of the season against Ipswich at Portman Road and generally played quite well despite the 2-1 defeat.

The 23 year old left back made his full international debut at the end of last season and was an unused substitute for Northern Ireland in their impressive 1-1 Group F draw in Portugal last month.

Well done Danny! He looked quite effective in the first half against Ipswich on Saturday but seemed to fade in second half and started to look a bit nervous. Probably going to struggle to keep out Ben Mee this season and I was surprised Joseph Mills didn't get the nod ahead of him at Portman Rd

I can only see this as a good thing - particularly for a player not playing every week with us.
