Gills Fail in Gifton Raid

Gillingham have confirmed that they failed in a bid to land Gifton Noel-Williams before the transfer deadline.

The Gills have won just one of their first five league games, and were looking at the Clarets striker, with a possible loan move in mind to add some much needed firepower to their frontline.

Gillingham manager, and former Clarets player Ronnie Jepson said: '"We tried to sign on loan last week, but we couldn`t afford his wages," Jepson said this morning, adding: "The supporters could tell me a million players to sign, but when it comes down to the financial package, it becomes a bit of a stumbling block."

Gifton was placed on the transfer list at the end of last season, and there was reported interest from NINE clubs, but nothing has yet materialised.

He has made appearances from the bench in the Clarets' last two games, but his best hope of first team football is seemingly away from Turf Moor.

I'm sure you are not too concerned, given the need for strength in depth.
