Rumour Mill-Wickham on Loan? Con or Connor ?

Rumour Mill-Wickham on Loan? Con or Connor ?

According to the Daily Mirror, Sunderland striker Connor Wickham is set to sign for Burnley on loan after missing out on a move to rivals Blackburn Rovers.

Rovers of course increased their armoury in the striking department after forking out a reported £8 million for Huddersfield forward, Jordan Rhodes in the summer transfer window last month. It would appear that signing dashed any hopes that Connor Wickham could also follow suit and become a Rovers player on a loan basis.

It is no secret that Eddie Howe is looking to sign another striker and many Clarets fans were perhaps surprised that no such signing permanent or otherwise took place before the transfer window closed last Friday. The loan transfer window now opens this Friday so perhaps Howe is hanging fire with an eye out for a decent loan striker.

Could that striker be Connor Wickham? He would certainly be high profile although has not exactly set the world alight for the Black Cats since arriving from Ipswich in June 2011. Wickham signed a four year deal with Premier League club Sunderland for a club record fee of £8 million but has managed just 16 appearances and one goal since arriving. The 19 year old England Under 21 international came through Reading and Ipswich's youth systems before making his name in the first team at Portman Road. He notched up 13 goals in 65 appearances for the Tractor Boys before Premier League clubs started to eye the young, raw talent.

Could Wickham be just the striker we need? Certainly high-profile but its a worry that his goal-scoring seems to have dried up.

I am not sure he has had a settled run in the side to get his goals flowing again - I think this would be a decent signing.

Still only 19, he might find it easier to score back in the Championship perhaps. I would certainly give him a chance, still an exciting prospect. Sign him up Eddie, might boost the fanbase who need cheering up

Two or three good loan signings, attack, midfield, defence could work wonders. I still think we should be looking for experience to bring on the youngsters with potential.

In LT: "Ipswich have the first option to take Wickham back to Portman Road on loan if they wished, but boss Paul Jewell said at the start of August that the Suffolk side could not afford to do so because Sunderland wanted them to pay three-quarters of the 6ft 3in forward’s wages – reported to be around £25,000 a week. Such a figure would also seem likely to be beyond Burnley’s reach and, although it is understood that Sunderland are now willing to negotiate that percentage, it remains to be seen whether the Clarets will opt to pursue a deal. " FFS show some ambition Burnley or let other Championship clubs who have more beat u to it!

LT 8/9 Suzanne Geldard: 'Connor Wickham has been linked with a temporary move from Sunderland, although finances mean it is unlikely to happen with the striker reported to be earning £25,000 a week and the Black Cats seeking 75 per cent of that for the course of the deal.' Oh FFS TIGHT WADS!!!

What is up with this club? They can afford it, sorry but they can, if they didn't plough everything they got into payin off the debt they created by showing lack of ambition in the first place, we might stop falling gates, fan apathy and falling revenue! Jay Rodriguez money? Fletcher sell-on money? Most of it into the Board's Black Hole..disgraceful,utterly!!
