Official -Great Dane Richards is a Claret!

STOP PRESS: Now confirmed on Official Site that Vancouver Whitecaps winger,Dane Richards has signed on a pre-contract basis and will arrive at Turf Moor on 1st January on a free transfer when his contract with the MLS side expires

Manager Eddie Howe said: "We are delighted to have signed Dane, who is a player we have been tracking for a while.

"I watched him at New York, where he played for a number of years and he is someone who has all the attributes we are looking for to add to our squad.

"He is quick and direct, has a real turn of pace and I think he will be joining us at a good time in January, hopefully to give us a push in the second half of the season.

"He has good international experience, he is a good age and we're looking forward to adding him to the squad"

The earlier story published on Vital Burnley read:

According to the Daily Star Sunday, Burnley have agreed a deal to sign 28 year old, Jamaica international,Dane Richards from Vancouver Whitecaps. The paper goes on to say that the wideman has passed a medical and will arrive on a free transfer at Turf Moor on January 1st when the next transfer window opens. It would appear that the winger also has an eye for goal scoring netting seven times at International level for Jamaica in 39 apperances. He previously played for New York Red Bulls for five years before joining Vancouver in the summer. What makes the article dated 26th August 2012 pretty strange is that next to it is a photograph of Owen Coyle saying 'Owen Coyle wants Dane Richards at Burnley'despite Eddie Howe being mentioned in the text! So then he clearly aint good enough for Bolton? If that aint sloppy journalism, I don't know what is! It certainly casts doubt there is any truth in the link!

Welcome back Saint,where u been mate? ;-)

Brilliant motivational skills for Treacy, Porter, Stan and Wallace. We have signed a better player than the lot of you, however he has never played in Europe and Coyle liked him. However he could be fit for a January game or perhaps he may have had a tough season and need a rest!!! You could not make it up.
VinRogue
Well signing anybody will not exactly be motivational for those playing in the same position! What it should do is make them all more competitive and if it don't then we know its time for em to go!! Harsh but true!
turfmanphil
Have to be careful though, its a different culture for some of these players although at least Jamaicans are more Anglicized unlike Guerrero and Penny!
turfmanphil
I wonder what sort of injury record he has? On current BFC policy I would like to think he is NOT due a recurrence of his 2008 injury, however!!!!
VinRogue
Best of luck Dane - I like the sound of the pace, not much of it about in our team!
claretdale
It would be good if he had the pace of Bolt and Blake!

We will certainly have a choice of wingers come January if we dont let any of em leave! Treacy, Stanislas, Wallace, Porter and Richards
