Bad News for Ings!

It was bad news for Clarets fans and Danny Ings today. Ings picked up a knee injury in the recent friendly against Rochdale at Spotland with Eddie Howe fearing the worst.

He has now had the results of a scan back and although it could have been more serious he will still miss the opening three-six months of the new season with a torn cartilage. The cartilage in his left knee will require surgery to fix leaving Eddie Howe short on attack options again with the new season about to get underway. It will be interesting to see if Howe now delves into the market again before the transfer window closes or perhaps more likely whether he looks at bringing in a loan striker.

The 20 year old has certainly not had much luck injury-wise. He was out of action for a lot of last season after picking up a cruciate ligament injury to his other knee just days before the 2011-12 season got underway. He had only been at the club a few days before breaking down in training. His debut had to be delayed until February this year but since that time he has established himself in the side and was going to be a crucial part of our attack this season."It`s unfortunate that Danny requires an operation and we really feel for him," said Howe talking about the injury.

"He had been looking in fantastic shape in pre-season and was a big part of our plans for the start of the season.

"But we will give him all the time and support necessary to get over this latest set-back and he will still have a major role to play for us as the season goes on."

Terrible news for Ings and EH hopefully it might only be three months, with the Pato situation not knowing if he can last a season we must look at getting another striker in.

This is a blow - I like the luck of Danny. For me it would depend on how close our youngsters are - I think Sam, Pato and Charlie are good enough as a three injuries/suspensions permitting over the first few months with a youngster filling in as and when ( its how Jay got his chance) - If not, a loan could be made down the line

I wonder if he had played in his "real position" instead of as a midfield trialist INGS would have been so different? Play on words with things truly amazing howe these tablets work! Howe...omg another one......

Ouch! Brings back memories of my cartilage operation, also on my left knee which effectively put paid to my footballing days. Not so these days with the advancement in operating techniques etc. let's hope it's the shorter recovery time rather than the 6 months. We really need Pato and Austin to remain injury free now, unlike previous seasons, and thank Eddie for signing Vokes !

Fingers crossed he is back sooner rather than later, and that is the end of his injury woes...

Uo to 6 months out for Ings, means trouble for us, with the ever injured Patto, and Austin to rely on were in the poo!, Eddie confirming today that there's no cash to bring in another striker, sends shivers down my spine, we really need to give ourself a chance and not having the cover is a worry, I sure some will point to McDonald and others Fletcher as able subs, but were in the big boys league they are either good enough of they aint..... and sadly they aint We don't have time to "see if they will fit in" we should know by know ! Eddie will have to move in the emergency loan window cos ya can bet ya bottom dollar Ings wont be the only striker in the treatment room come September !

This is certainly desperately disappointing news. Feel so sorry for him and hope he can come back stronger. Surely the idea of having 4 strikers is so that we have players available in case of something like this. I take the point that someone else might get injured but someone else might always get injured. Technically we'd need to lose two more before needing to go to the loan market. I think the bigger concern for EH will be how this affects our gameplan as Ings would surely have made the starting team.

Just hope Austin and Pato are not only injury free but also on form until ings recovers around January time. Because we have no one else who fits the bill.

Now even more critical we dont sell Austin to make a quick buck

An added point is that of all our strikers, Ings is the most versatile as he has played wide midfield, as such players like Treacy and Stanislas might also be alternatives for him, especially in a 4-3-3 formation which we played from time to time last year.

Pato has also played wide midfield.

Pato is on International duty and may not come back just as fit as when he left......

It might well be that like tonight's formation, we might play with only require one central striker, with Wallace, Stanislas, Treacy and Pato jockeying for the wide positions. Sure Ings would have been on the right of the front three rather than Stanislas had he been fit.
