Stock Clearance before Stock Take!-Now Taken!

Update: It has now been confirmed that Brian Stock is a Claret! He has agreed a two year deal but the club have not provided any details of the transfer fee involved which remains undisclosed!Eddie Howe talking about his sixth summer signing said:

"Brian is a very good footballer who will suit how we play.

"He is someone we admired for a long time. He had a really good career at Doncaster and I thought he was impressive in the games he played against us over the past couple of years.

"Experience and leadership are two things we haven't got a great deal of and I certainly think he will add in those two areas."

Here is the earlier news from this morning before the signing was confirmed

30 year old midfielder, Brian Stock looks set to become Burnley's sixth signing of the summer and local media reports suggest he will now complete a two year deal this morning in time to appear on the new team photograph.

It had been hoped he would sign on Friday but this had to put on hold whilst the results of a medical scan were received. It is understood the scan results came back all clear so the transfer deal can now go ahead.

The Wales international looks set to sign in time to appear on Burnley`s team photograph at Turf Moor today at noon. The squad will then hold a training session from 12.30pm as part of the fun day event to be held at Turf Moor.

Howe has been linked with the player for sometime and was first alerted to Stock`s availability after Doncaster Rovers suffered relegation to League One last season. It is thought a lot of the delay was related to financial aspects with Burnley being cautious whilst they sorted out their priorities for signing defenders and finalising a move for striker, Sam Vokes. Stock was thought to be one of Doncaster`s highest earners after agreeing a good deal with the club eighteen months ago at a time when a number of Premier League clubs were showing interest. It is possible that salary negotiations with Burnley could also have been a temporary sticking point but that all now seems to have been resolved.

Eddie Howe knows Brian Stock from their days together at Bournemouth. Bournemouth was Stock's first professional club but he left in early 2006 to join Preston following a loan spell at Deepdale in January 2006. The transfer fee was reported to be £125,000. His opportunities at the club were limited though and in September 2006 he joined Doncaster Rovers on loan before making the move permanent in January 2007 for £150,000.

Good news week!!

It might take a few fans a bit of time to warm to this lad as he is not necessarily your typical sleeves rolled up get stuck in type. However, given a run of fitness he is a top quality player at Championship player. I think we have been missing a fulcrum in midfield for some time and Stock fills that gap - absolutely no doubt in my mind about that. Great signing.

This was a really important signing to get across the line. Stock is a quality footballer who knows how to play in a really attractive style. His experience will be crucial aswell. Another player who has experienced promotion in the past. I wonder how many of them we have now ?

Would just like to add that I would have much rather had Brian Stock that Adam Clayton, who we had previously been linked with.

Really happy now. I think we are in with a good chance of at least a top 6 finish. Hopefully better
