'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Rumour Mill-Blackpool want Austin?

Both the local and national press are reporting that Blackpool could be about to launch a 4 million bid for Charlie Austin.

Austin was linked recently with a move to money-rich Huddersfield but that all seems to have died a death and most Clarets fans will now be hoping the Blackpool link will die in similar fashion!

Eddie Howe will be hoping 'Austin Powers' for Burnley next season rather than become 'Austin Towers' and said recently of his striker:

"Like all young players Charlie`s had a first full year at this level last year and I think that will have done him the world of good," said Howe.

"He had experiences both good and bad with injuries and the goals were obviously a highlight for him. But I think his all-round game is improving all the time.

"It`s his hunger - when he plays well you can see it in him."

Austin appears to be in top form at the moment. He was the club`s leading league goalscorer with 16 goals last season and has also been hitting the back of the net with some regularity in our pre-season summer friendlies. He has scored four goals in as many matches so far this summer including a brace in our last match last Saturday against Cheltenham at Whaddon Road.

Howe has already lost Jay Rodriguez and although the strikeforce has now been boosted by the arrival of Sam Vokes, the gaffer will be very reluctant to lose another forward of the calibre of Austin and it would also be a bitter blow to Clarets fans who now genuinely are beginning to look forward to the new season ahead following the five new summer signings to date.

So stick the tower up your **** Blackpool!

Ummh still unproven for me.... 4M ..... I d sell him PROVIDING we were confident we could others in
hollinsclaret
Im going to disagree with you Hollins, going to be a big season for Austin I think he could bag twenty goals plus this year.
Fedupclaret
It is a balance between that shoulder being 100% for the whole season, he does climb high and his chances of injury are quite high imo, I have images of the shoulder strapping he was wearing last year. Injury free its a no brainer we must keep him...but if the offer was high enough...I would have to think long and hard.
VinRogue
If a Championship rival is prepared to offer for Austin that says they are prepared to take the injury risk and so should we. Our season would be knackered before it started if we lost a currently fit Austin scoring for fun at the moment! We would have very little time to find a replacement too
turfmanphil
Agree with fedup that I think Charlie is going to be a big player for us and I believe will score 20+. I think we will get a bigger bid for him ( injury permitting) next season.
Claretdale
Yeah All good points chaps ......... However I would stick to my guns on this, I would fire sale Patto and Austin exactly for the reasons stated above. As regards that builders shoulder on Austin it aint going heal. so quick and as for Patto ya all know my thoughts on him, they are they same as they have been in the last two seasons and nothings changed he's a walking nightmare! Have to say the Vokes deal makes me sit up and think, if we got 6M for the pair what could we do with it ? In Eddie I trust... I would love to see what he would do his he had a real war chest can help but think there are deals to be done
hollinsclaret
and yes I really do need to read my messages before posting them!!!! ... sorry, hope ya got the jist of it
hollinsclaret
I can see your point, and we cant be certain if Pato and Charlie will stay fit and firing for the season - It is a chance you have to take, or not as the case may be.
Claretdale
Understand what you are saying Hollins, and we all know if the price is right the Board will sell, and 6m for Austin and Pato with their injury records seems a good deal. Who do we buy to replace them and who will come for the wages we pay, plus they need time to settle at a new Club.
Fedupclaret
It would be suicide to get rid of Austin at this stage of the game! For heavens sake there has to come a time when takes a back seat in an effort to make more !! i.e promotion
turfmanphil
Totally agree tmp.
Fedupclaret
What about Ings then ? He was out for months last year so does that make him an injury concern too ? Why dont we sell him aswell and leave ourselves with one striker and a couple of weeks of the transfer window to go. Where does it stop ? You can never know how likely it is that a player is going to get injured and for how long. You can only judge him on ability, and for me Austin is one of the best strikers in this league in terms of goals to minutes on the pitch. No matter what you can put money on Austin finding the back of the net frequently. I just cant understand how some of you can justify the sale of a top player just because he has had a couple of injuries. It was a long long time ago and hes back to his best.

I understand where you are coming from Adam and certainly if Arsenal lose RVP at this late stage it too could be seen as suicide tmp. This is the modern game, players have agents who will always be looking for a payday. Eagles, Mears, Fox and Wade all cleared off when we didn't expect it or want it.
VinRogue
Cant believe Ings has just had an injury scare after my comment. Really hope he is okay, its vital that we keep everyone fit.
AdamBurnleyFan
By Christmas we could be left with Vokes and Cammie!! Whilst we are still looking for players, will it not also be suicide for teams to lose a player to us at this late stage? But, I am sure if we got a good player at this late stage who had only one year left on his contract with a rival club we would be delighted??
VinRogue
Can't believe those of you who would be happy to be shot of Austin. He's class. He came on again late last night to score the only goal (although Shacks thinks it was his). Our best striker by far and you don't let your best go this close to the season starting, surely?
marjory blenkinsop
Sorry marjory but Shackell scored. I wasn't happy about Fletcher leaving or JayRod but thats football. Austin if injury free could be the top scorer in our league this season, but if a huge bid came in for him you would have to consider the bigger picture. The bigger picture for me is do you think our squad are capable of top 2? If not then if the sale of one player helps you to keep rebuilding for the future, then we will sell imo.
VinRogue
Sorry marjory but you are right it would appear Austin scored and anything I read about Shackell scoring must have been a dream!
VinRogue
Would prefer to keep Big Chaz but Vin is right - if an offer comes in then it has to be considered and the player himself will always be interested. That said I think the stage is set for him now. He has notched a few pre-season so hopefully he will stay fit and score goals in the real games.
RickersTwickers
Naw not having 'this is the modern day football syndrome'! Austin is under contract, until someone has the balls to hold onto players and stop penny pinching we will never get out of this rut. I am sure Austin would play for us if we kept hold of him. I can't see Blackpool or Huddersfield being that much of an attraction unless of course they offer him loads of money..in which case we should match it and show some ambition! We might get more respect then and attract other players. The image of being a small town club with small town ambition in the end only does more harm than good
turfmanphil
You are a small town club...No offense intended, but what makes you think any different...???
80s terrier
Can just see the Arsenal Board saying...RVP leaving before his contract ends, NO, we must make a stand and lose zillions...someone has too, modern day football must end here! Reality checks please........
