Clarets International: Trapattoni faith in Treacy!

Republic of Ireland manager, Giovanni Trapattoni has given Burnley winger Keith Treacy a bit of an International lifeline after calling him up for a friendly against Serbia.

It has been a frustrating and disappointing Euro 2012 for the Irish side and the rumour goes that Trapattoni is looking for new ideas and new players to improve future performances.

Treacy now appears to be one such player that he wants to look at more closely.

The friendly game against Serbia will be played in Belgrade on 15th August so if Eddie Howe had any intention of playing the former Preston wingman against Port Vale in the Carling Cup season opener, he will have to think again!

Keith Treacy, perhaps surprisingly remains the first and only Burnley player to play for the Republic of Ireland. He has been capped six times with the last his appearances coming as a substitute against Croatia in August of last year.

Treacy has not exactly taken his Burnley career by storm so far and media reports suggest a few clubs like Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley could be mounting bids to sign him permanently.

Eddie Howe though seems so far happy to give the 23 year old, ex-Blackburn Rovers winger a second chance and he played in the pre-season opener today coming on in the second-half to play in Team B as the Clarets romped home to beat Altrincham 4-1 at Moss Lane. Treacy also set-up Burnley's fourth goal crossing for Charlie Austin to head home in the dying seconds of the game!

Let's hope it works out for Keith at Turf Moor and he can show us once and for all what he is capable of achieving!

I would really, really like to see Treacy 'do it' consistently for the Clarets! He seems to have the potential but so far something has been preventing him proving it!!

Treacy is a great player and Im not surprised he has been called up. So much ability. I really hope we give him a good chance next year, he could really deliver.
