Rumour Mill-Jason stays Shackelled at Derby?

Derby County gaffer, Nigel Clough is determined to hold onto 28-year-old Jason Shackell despite a reported £1.2million bid from Burnley for the defender. According to Sky Sports it is understood the bid was rejected.

It is thought a number of clubs have Shackell on their radar after impressing for the Rams this season.

'We don't have to sell,' said Clough. 'But if we do it will be to strengthen the team.'

The Clarets were linked with Shackell previously when the player was at Barnsley but he chose instead to join the Rams in June 2011 after agreeing a three-year deal.

With regular Derby skipper Shaun Barker out through injury towards the end of last season,Shackell was also given the captain's armband.

Shackell started his professional career at Norwich City before joining Wolves in September 2008 after signing a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee believed to be around £1 million.

He returned to Norwich on loan for a spell and another loan out to Doncaster Rovers also followed. In May 2010 he signed for Barnsley for an undisclosed fee.

Shackell's preferred position in the back four is in the centre of defence but he is also a pretty good left back.

Good news that we are active in looking for players and willing to spend. If the story is factual and not rumour.

Great news if this is true - If we are bidding £1m + for players, we cant be totally skint can we!

Making early advances for players and defenders no less! Great positive signs, it has also just been announced an offer has not been accepted by Mansfield for O'neill. How much did Derby pay for Shackell?
YorkshireClaret
I think he went to Derby on a free YC
Claretdale
Hmm, makes you think he might just not be interested in joining us regardless of a transfer.
YorkshireClaret
I am sure we will all join tmp in saying this is terrible news to be unsettling players at clubs whilst the player still has a contract. I certainly hope no club is interested in any of our players who still have a contract with us.... whatever next..........or is it ok for us to bid for players but not for any clubs to bid for Jay or Tripps.......lol
VinRogue
I am not sure why he ended up at Derby first time YC. But things change - we may be willing/able to offer him a better contract now we have lost a lot of our higher earners?
