Rumour Mill-Howe in line for a Ward?

Burnley along with Leeds, Crystal Palace and Ipswich are understood to be interested in signing 22 year old Portsmouth defender and midfielder, Joel Ward.

Leeds though would appear to be the front runners for his signature and it is understood he was at Elland Road on Wednesday for talks. It is thought he could make a decision as early as next week.

The versatile player is expected to leave his hometown club for a fee that could be in the region of £500,000.

He looked set to join Ipswich in January and indeed the two clubs agreed an offer but talks broke down over personal issues.

Ward signed a professional contract with Pompey in July 2008 after coming through the clubs Academy and establishing himself in the Reserves.

In order to gain first-team experience, he was then loaned out one month later, for a month to Bournemouth. Eddie Howe would have known him during Ward's brief spell at Dean Court. At the time Howe was player coach under manager,Kevin Bond but would lose his job in September that year following the sacking of Bond.

Sounds a useful player but other clubs would appear to have an advantage. He will probably want to join Leeds and line up with former Pompey team mate, Jason Pearce

I am sure we have a number of players on our radar - Hopefully Eddie gets as many of his main targets as possible.
