In case you missed it last week, here are some little snippets of Clarets news that may be of interest to you...
Goodbye to the Chief Scout!
The club confirmed last week that chief scout Tim Henderson had left Turf Moor by mutual consent.
Henderson became Burnley`s Chief Scout in January, 2010 under former manager Brian Laws after previously working at Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough. He had responsibilities for opposition analysis, as well as recruitment and Clarets fans might be interested to know that he was instrumental in bringing both Danny Fox and Jack Cork to Turf Moor.
The club though is undergoing a re-shuffle of Eddie Howe's backroom staff and Tim Henderson has become a casualty of the changes underway.
'I have enjoyed my time with the club immensely. It is what we call in the industry a 'proper club', full of tradition, good people and strong core values,' said Henderson.
'Although ending in disappointment, the highlight of my time at the club was our Premier League campaign.
'That will be a stand-out memory for me as every professional wants to pit their wits against the top clubs in the best league.'
He added:'I wish the club well for the future. A respectable finish has been obtained after a season of transition and I am sure a busy summer lies ahead while the manager looks to shape and mould his team for another championship campaign - one I believe can be successful if everyone is patient and gets behind the team.'
Chief Executive Lee Hoos said:
'We thank Tim for his considerable efforts during his time at Turf Moor.
'He made a valued contribution to the coaching and playing staff during his time with us and we wish him well as he pursues his future career.'
Clarets International-Edgar for Canada Again!
Burnley centre back, David Edgar who was born in Ontario has been called up to Canada`s training camp ahead of their centenary friendly against the United States and two World Cup qualifiers.
He will cross the pond and link up with the national squad in Fort Lauderdale on 22 May.
Canada will play the USA in Toronto on Sunday, 3 June in a game celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Canadian FA.
The 'Canucks` will then play Cuba in Havana on Friday, 8 June and Honduras in Toronto on Tuesday, 12 June in qualifying games for the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil.
Edgar will be hoping to add to the eight caps he already has playing for Canada.
Frustration for Both Young Guns and Reserves` Nearly Men!
It many ways it has been a very frustrating season for the Youth Team this season whilst at the same time being a hugely successful one. Earlier this season of course they reached the FA Youth Cup Semi-Finals for the first time in 33 years only to be knocked out by local rivals, Blackburn Rovers over two legs. The pain also got worse when another local club, Preston North End denied the Clarets silver ware in two further competitions. In the Youth Alliance League, Burnley and Preston had been battling it out for some time to decide who would become Champions and in the end there was just one point in it with sadly Preston coming out on top with 59 points. Burnley, finishing in the runners-up spot on 58 points had mustered 19 wins and one draw losing only 4 times all season but agonisingly for the Clarets it was simply just not enough!
Never mind could Burnley exact some revenge over their local rivals by beating them in the Lancashire FA Youth Cup Final? The two faced up to each other at Deepdale last Thursday night but again the Clarets would come away empty handed in the end losing 1-0. A goal from Preston`s Brandon Zibaka in the second half was enough to decide the tie but to be honest Burnley were under par in this clash and in the end it was a disappointing performance.
Youth team coach Terry Pashley pulled no punches after the defeat:
"I`ve no complaints at all. We didn`t perform, we didn`t deserve to win. In the end we got what we deserved and it was disappointing. I`m very hard pressed to find someone who came off with any credit.
"It`s a great shame and they`ve got to learn how to win football matches. A lot of them are going to be professionals next season and they`ve got to learn to win games.
"All we had was half chances; I can`t really remember their keeper having to make a save,
"We didn`t work him enough and we didn`t do enough in the final third. We built up but it was too slow, too predictable, and too pedestrian, we never really got anything going. It was a disappointing end to it.
"I hope they are hurt, they should be after losing. They shouldn`t be happy coming second and that should be a learning curve for them.
"If you can`t drag a bit more out for a cup final then when can you drag a bit more out?
"I don`t accept the excuse of tired legs one little bit.
"If they want to be first team footballers they`re going to have to show that," he said.
"Those that are in the first team aren`t going to give them their shirts.
"They`re going to have to earn it and take it off them.
"I`m annoyed with the way they`ve gone about it. It was almost as if they were thinking all they had to do was turn up to win the game. I`ll praise them when they deserve praising but I`ll tell them the truth when I think they`ve come up short, cup final or no cup final."
If the youth team coming second so many times was hard to take, it seemed to infect the team one level higher with Burnley Reserves too finishing second best! On Monday night, the Clarets secured the runners-up spot in the Central League West Division after comfortably beating Tranmere Rovers 3-1 at Turf Moor. They followed that up with another victory in their final game of the season beating Macclesfield 3-1 again on home soil on Friday night. That win was their seventh of the season over the twelve games played and they also drew another two losing just three matches over the season.
Once again though, it was Preston who took the title, finishing on 25 points from their twelve games just two points ahead of the Clarets.
