Rumour Mill-Marney Attracting Interest

Sky Sports are reporting that they understand Ipswich and Brighton are both tracking Burnley midfielder Dean Marney.

This is certainly not the first time, Dean Marney has been subject to speculation that Ipswich could have him on their radar with reports in the January window that Paul Jewell was interested in signing the former Spurs and Hull playmaker. Gus Poyet's interest though does appear to be a new link.

Marney arrived from Hull in the summer of 2010 but is now about to enter the final year of his contract at the club this summer and a number of clubs are thought to be keeping an eye on the situation.

It was a shaky start for Dean Marney this season with many Clarets fans not too fussed that he could be about to leave the club. However, he gradually fought his way back into the starting eleven and began to impress both as a defensive holding midfielder and as a more general central midfielder. He earned himself a number of man of the match awards and began to win over the hearts of the once dubious Clarets fans.

The 28-year-old has now established himself as a key member of Eddie Howe's squad and it is thought the Burnley gaffer will be keen to keep Marney in order to help the club challenge for promotion next season.

I cant really see what advantage Marney would get by moving to either Ipswich or Brighton unless of course having a bigger turnover these clubs could offer him more brass thanks to the grossly unfair FIFA Fair Play ruling!

One I'd like to see stay. I think he'll be a big plus next season

Are we going to have any team left?? Maybe we can put out a team of kids like Coventry did against Southampton at the weekend and see how far we get next season. I suggest a one way ticket to league 1. Heh at least the accountants will be very happy.

Marney had a good second half to the season ( he didnt play much in the first half) - I would like to see him stay.

He must stay. Sick of the unfairness of football. We have to compete financially with these big City clubs, With 20,000 average gates.

As with Trippier, one to try and keep - useful in the team or as part of the squad. Not the best in any department, but pretty good of late, nonetheless. Now, Phil, where are the articles with the rumnours of who we are signing?! ;-)

I was wondering that too Barnsey! Not been linked with anybody as far as I can make out. Only thing I have seen is that Howe has his targets! Yawn. Bet they come from the lower leagues and involve Dorset!

How fickle are fans, Marneys a headless chicken let him go in the January transfer window....I read this from the start of the season and wondered wtf do they want from a one man midfield...oh sorry I forgot McCann and the support of Treacy and Wallace making it a tight midfield four or just a bag of shi@e midfield. Now we want to keep him....do we want to keep McCann too!?

Who would anyone not mind leaving or being sold? Personally for me would be Grant and Treacy.

The problem is not so much folk leaving but having enough in reserve financially to find better or at least equivalent players in terms of quality. We are going to be a hell of a lot of players down potentially if you think about Amougou, Easton etc and that's before the Prem clubs come a poaching for our star players! Is Hines good enough, is Treacy good enough? Do we have enough depth in the squad? I think the answer to that is definitely no at the moment and it looks likely to get worse.

There is no point in keeping players that are not good enough just for numbers sake. We have youth players that will wear a shirt with pride and may just blossom. Easton and Treacy are good enough for Division1 along with McDonald, Hines (at the moment). Or do you suggest we bring back Carlisle and Grezza to bolster numbers? Anyone watching the last 6 or 7 games will have been able to work out looking at the bench that we are low on numbers! I deduce that Eddie and our Board will have noticed and we must wait to see what they believe they can do about it.

I'd like us to see to make approaches for Burnley fans currently playing their trade. I wonder if So'ton have any use for Chaplow now they have been promoted, would love to see him back instead of Marney. The lad Norwood from Man Utd and Marc Pugh maybe? We need to build more spirit in the camp and more of a bond between players and fans and these kind of signings would be good for overall morale. My thoughts on Marney are that he's had his best run of form since Xmas but being a Laws purchase he's bound to be on more than he's worth. I wouldn't describe him as a playmaker though, he doesn't create enough and his passing his largely awful.

I like Treacy. Personally I feel that we are yet to see the best of him and he is currently working hard and doing well at Wednesday. Like Eddie says, he can be as good as he wants to be, so lets hope he wants to be good.

Ask any PNE fan about Treacy, he does not fit the EH profile. File under mistake, could do well at a club with a huge squad.

Shirley, it must be obvious that BFC would never let a player go unless they were replacing them with a better player. Anything else spells failure.

I did chuckle at that Cornwall, I think VB faces a summer of sarcasm and ironic posts. Martin Dobson was replaced with a stand if we had bought a player instead of a new stand we wouldn't have been in this mess now.....mark my words!
