Rumour Mill-Coyle Wants Jay Rod!

It is now almost inevitable with Eddie Howe preparing Clarets fans for the worst that Jay Rodriguez could be leaving in the summer.

Jay Rod currently injured with a 'wear and tear' hip and groin problem may already have played his last game for the Clarets unless he can feature in the six games of the season remaining.

Eddie Howe recently said:

'I'm sure there will be clubs looking at him so we'll wait and see on that one,' said Howe. 'I'm sure it will be difficult to keep hold of him, but we would love to.

Any Premier League team that watches our games and does their homework will see what a season he's had.

They'll look at his age, his goalscoring record and all of the attributes that he's got.'

Clarets fans are probably resigned to losing him but they won't be happy with news today that Owen Coyle is interested in bringing him to the Reebok for next season.

It is understood that Coyle is eyeing the Clarets marksman along with rival Everton gaffer David Moyes.

No doubt our leading goal-scorer with 21 goals in all competitions this season is already on the radar of other Premier League clubs. Newcastle, for example wre also reportedly interested in the striker in the January window. Nowrich were also sniffing about!

If we are to lose Jay Rod, I am sure Clarets fans will be hoping he signs for a club in the top half of the Premier League table.

Bolton, would certainly not be in that league and they are still of course fighting for their top flight lives. If they fail in their mission and Bolton are relegated, you just can't see Jay Rod a local boy and 'one of our own' jumping ship just to play for another Championship side next season!

Oh well,it is going to be a very interesting close season by looks of it. Let's hope it's one where we gain more than we lose!!

Here we go,here we go, here we go! Just hope we can get this business over with quickly in the summer if Jay Rod is leaving so we have time hopefully to put the money towards a replacement or six!!
I really do hope jay doesn't opt to go to Bolton
Much as we would love him to stay its inevitable he will leave. Barry Kilby has already warmed us up to that in yesterdays program notes saying how our budget will be 8m lower next year due to lower parachute payments Furthermore its unlikely he would go to a team in the top 6 as he will want to play football not be in the reserve team all the time so we just better get used to the real possibilty of him going to Bolton or somewhere similar instead of wasting the next 4 months dedbating it
debating it i meant! also with the 8m budget reduction I wouldnt bank on getting more than 1 cheap replacement and the sooner tmp accepts that the better rather than keep saying what might have been if we'd done things differently 2 years ago
Some of us want to change this bollox we have suffered for over 50 years,BC! Sorry, but until we do we will just be taking a few scraps from the table now and again unless of course we are relegated, and relegated by natural progression like the last time in the 70s underiinvestment led to our demise and nearly our very league status! It is utterly DISGRACEFUL that we have have fallen so far since the promotion and the blame lies firmly at the Board's door and the sooner folks realise it the better! As for not betting the ranch and daring to dream, the bloody ranch was sold and now we face a potential nightmare!
We all know Jay is likely to go and I am sure Eddie already has potential replacement in mind. I cant see him going to Bolton because I am not sure they could afford the transfer fee. As much as I like Jay, he is unproven at Premier League level and is by no means certain to succeed ( although I hope he does). At a guess, I am not sure Bolton will have 5m+ to spend on one player who would be a 'punt'.
I hope we sell Jay to a team I feel I can support whilst Jay is doing well. I like Rangers (Lafferty), I like Plymouth (McDonald) it all falls apart and goes PITON when you mention Blake, Eagles and Mears! If you know what I mean. Sunderland, Everton or Newcastle I would be over the moon to watch Jays career take off, notloB or deadwood he would be just another Judas.....
Well said VR! To be honest, we will all breathe a sigh of relief if Bolton get relegated now! Just sick and tired of Judas getting his oar in and flashing his horse teeth! I can't believe Jay Rod would want to entertain Bolton even if they stay in Prem with clubs like Newcastle, even Everton sniffing around [Edited by turfmanphil]
Jay will not go to Bolton. That's for sure.

I would like to think Jays allegiance would be with Burnley being a local lad and wouldn't do the dirty on us. Id really like to see him at a upper mid-table side, someone like Everton, Sunderland Stoke etc but how much of it will it be his choice?
I would just like to bring something up about David Edgar. I have just taken a look at the poll where 50% of us have said that we should be signing a new centre back. Obviously at the beginning of the season, Edgar put in some really good performances and cemented his place at the heart of the defence. He continued to play well, made the occasional error, but his overall game play was good. However, in the last couple of months he has started to become more prone to making costly mistakes. Some of which have been costing us goals. I am not trying to say that he is a potential liability, but Im just saying that if the whole team gives everything for 90 minutes and dominate the game, there is always the chance that he could lose his concentration and throw it away. He also seems to need Duff alongside him to keep him right. There is no doubt that he has ability, but so did Amougou, and look whats happened to him. Amougou was also prone to making the occasional error or losing concentration, but I would say that he is a better centre half than Edgar. Bigger, stronger, more intimidating to opposition and a lot more experience. He just needed a run of games if you ask me. So I would just like to pose a couple of questions: Does Edgar still deserve to be starting or should he be dropped and a replacement found in the summer ? Is a Duff-Mee partnership more favourable ?
I think Edgar is good enough and will get better. I think we are grooming Lafferty for first choice left back which would allow Mee to play in centre. If we brought in one more centre back to replace Amougou we would then have Duff, Mee, Edgar and ANO plus young guns like Kevin Long. That would give us options. Duff won't last forever and depending on who we bring in, it might be better to play ANO plus Mee or Edgar plus Mee and see how that fares
According to the Mirror today,promotion-chasing Southampton and Europe-chasing Newcastle have both made bids for Jay!
That was last summer! Mirror, Mirror on the wall... get on the ball!
Couch Potato
Not my reading of it CP! Think these are fresh bids.Cut & paste this link wirtten 4/4-
Adam to answer your question, I think Edgar is not good enough to play for a top 6 Championship club. He is a younger Duff, first touch lets him down, gets caught out of position and makes far too many mistakes, may I also add that his mistakes tend to cost us goals, games and points. Duff and Mee is possible but I would prefer a new centre back alongside .....
Think Rodriquez will want to go and, let's face it, you can't blame him if he wants to better himself. We all do that and we haven't done TOO badly without him in the last few games. I can't see him getting a game at somewhere like Everton but Southampton - where he could feature alongside Lambert - or Norwich might be a good move.
Can only agree TMP & VR. If Jay Rod is looking for Prem status with a less fashionable Club (and support from Clarets) then surely Bolton are not serious contenders, and they in a poor state financially. What about Fulham if Dempsey went?
