Luke Chaps, Conlan Gets a Pro Deal!

Northern Ireland Under-19 international left back, Luke Conlan was one of two players along with Cameron Howieson who signed their first professional contract for the club last Thursday.

We have already taken a look at Cameron Howieson but what do we know about Luke?

Conlan was born in Portaferry and played for Grosvenor Youth before joining the Clarets last summer.

Just like Howieson, he is still only 17 and has impressed this season under the guidance of youth coach, Terry Pashley. Conlan and Howieson have both played for the Reserves this season as well as trained with the first team so they both certainly seem to have a bright future ahead of them after being rewarded with their first professional contracts. The two year deals mean they will both remain at the club at least until June 2014.

Things look bright all round after this season's success for our youth team. They did of course manage to reach the two-leg FA Youth Cup semi-final for the first time since 1978 before going down to Blackburn Rovers 3-1 on aggregate last week and they are fighting to become Youth Alliance North West Champions in what looks like a two-horse race with Preston.

We can expect news of some further professional deals too with reports on the official site confirming negotiations are underway with a number of the youth players. 18 year old, locally-born central defender, Tom Anderson is widely thought to be one of them.

The future looks rosy indeed

Let's just hope we can see a lot of these lads progress to the first team before the Premier League clubs come-a-poaching wearing their EPPP badges!!
