'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Charlie Claret by Royal Appointment!!

Could Burnley FC be given a higher profile on the television and in the newspapers now? Well you never know after Prince Charles confirmed this week he was still a Clarets supporter. Not for him the likes of rich, local high profile,Premier League London club, Chelsea but 'ickle old Burnley so at long last it would appear 'someone loves us` and it would also appear someone with a certain amount of clout. Time for the media to stand up and take note?

It would appear that the heir to the British throne has given royal assent to Burnley.

'A consortium of my charities, including the British Asian Trust, has been working in Burnley,' Prince Charles speaking this week at a Windsor Castle dinner in aid of the British Asian Trust.

'Some of you asked this evening whether I support a British football club and I said 'yes, Burnley'.'

'And people have responded 'Burnley?' Oh yes, because Burnley has been through some very challenging times and I'm trying to find ways of helping to regenerate and raise aspirations and self-esteem in that part of the world. "

The club has decided therefore to send the Prince a complimentary VIP season ticket so hopefully we shall soon see him at a game or two? No?

It is not the first time Prince Charles has been linked with Burnley FC as the photograph above taken during our brief sojourn in the top flight indicates. The Prince has visited the town numerous times. His charity the Prince's Trust also has an office in Burnley, and he has called the 'remarkable town' his 'number one priority'.

He spoke of his support for the Weavers Triangle development plans and its importance in the regeneration of the town in February 2010 and also paid a visit to Turf Moor meeting with chairman, Barry Kilby,

A club spokesman said:

'It's no surprise to see Charles reaffirming his support for Burnley Football Club as we know he keeps a close eye on our results.

'In fact, as part of our new season ticket package we are sending a complimentary VIP season ticket to Charles and we hope to see him cheering on the Clarets from the Directors' Box next season ... hopefully in the Premier League.'

It could be an interesting family battle in the Windsor household with his son the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William supporting another team that play in Claret & Blue, namely Aston Villa!

Diligent readers will recall Claret Charlie's contributions to our 2010 World Cup forum, and indeed to WTBM. It's possible he may be writing more!
