Rumour Mill-Fryers or Just Deep Fat?

According to Sky Sports Burnley are understood to have Manchester United defender, Ezekiel Fryers on their radar. United could lose the 19 year old this summer, if they fail to agree new terms, with the player out of contract at the end of the season. It is also reported that the young prospect has recently turned down the club`s offer of a new deal.

Eddie Howe is thought to have tried to push through a deal before the transfer deadline last month but after failing is now considering a loan bid once the loan window opens.

Howe now has the reputation of seeking loan deals with a view to eventually taking the players on permanently if they prove promising so could Fryers be the next Ben Mee or Kieran Trippier?

Fryers locally-born in Manchester came through United`s youth system and has made just six appearances for the first team including a Champions League group stage match against Oțelul Galați at Old Trafford last November when he came on as a substitute. He made his Premier League début in December against Wolverhampton Wanderers after coming on as a substitute for Patrice Evra in the 68th minute. His appearances tally may have been higher had it not been for a serious knee injury which kept him sidelined for most of 2010-11

He is a central defender but has also played at left-back and has already represented England at U16, U17 and U19 level.

Good player this lad. Would be good to see Fryers tuck alongside the rest of our back four.

Possible replacement for Duffo? Certainly fits the criteria, would be a great addition!

OK, I'll be the sceptic. It's a hard job, but someone's got to do it. Don't we want a central defender who can cover at RB more than one who can cover at LB? Easton, Mee, Lafferty and McCann can play LB, as can Wallace after last week. At RB we have Trips, Duffman and Edgar (ok at Leeds, unconvincing at Torquay and Norwich) and Alex Macca now bangin' 'em in down in Devon.

Manchester United youngster Ezekiel Fryers has dismissed speculation that he has rejected the offer of a new contract at the club. However, the defender has urged supporters to ignore the rumours, which also suggested Tottenham were interested in him, and has revealed on his Twitter account that he has not turned down an offer. "Why is everyone believing what they read...I haven't rejected the contract!" he wrote.

I suppose we all ought to remember that the prime objective of a reporter is to produce stories that help to sell the paper. The truth is well down the order of their priorities. I just look at it like reading an adult's version of the Beano, enntertaining!

The trouble is every now and again some of the media reports do appear to have substance and eventually lead to players being signed or sold! They can't all just hit lucky so all we can do is try and rationalise whether there is likely to be any truth in the rumours or not! In the end they are a bit of fun and a bit of excitement that may or may not have an element of truth to them. The art is to try and gauge which is which
