Daniel Lafferty Signs In!

22 year old Derry City left back, Daniel Lafferty has joined Burnley today for an undisclosed fee after recently having a successful trial with the club and impressing in a behind-closed-doors match at Wolves last week . It is thought he may have signed for about 150,000. He has penned a two-and-a half year deal subject to international clearance.

The exciting prospect is already a Republic of Ireland Under 21 intenational and looks set for a bright future. Burnley would appear to have beaten Watford, Brighton and Derby County to his signature.

"We had a look at him for a week in training and he impressed us," said Eddie Howe.

"It's the closed-season in Ireland so he's a bit behind in fitness work so we have a bit of work to do to get him right up to speed and it's a big jump for him from the level that he's played at," added Howe on the Official Burnley website.

"He's had a good grounding at Celtic. You can see he's had a good education. He's got a lovely left foot and he loves to get forward.

"He's a really good footballer and he fit very much into our philosophy. He's one for the future but is also in our thoughts for now."

Lafferty spent five years at Celtic joining the club in 2006 after coming through Oxford United`s youth system; the period also included a loan spell at Ayr United. He signed for his hometown club, Derry City in 2010.

Welcome aboard, Oh Danny Boy!!

Looks a great signing! Not sure he will be in contention for Forest game though and Easton must be quaking in his boots!

Much needed strenthening for the defence. Will take some time to get match. Lets hope we dont loose any of our key player!!!!

Indeed DD! Lafferty is described as an attack minded left back!

I think this signals the end of calamity Easton with his contract due to expire at the end of the season. I'm glad its only a 2 and a half year contract as it will encourage him to improve and on our past record of signing some other "prospects". I'm really happy that Eddie is strengthening a key area and we could have the youngest back four in the leagues next year! Considering Eddie stated in the media that he saw no more coming in and then this happens will we see any more? Could it have all been mind games? Now its just hanging on to our key players.

I think that Eastons contract will not be renewed at the end of the season, we now have a prospect for that position and Mee who can cover it too. In my eyes Easton is a mid table at best Championship player, he is ok as a back up but that would be it. Hope the new lad listens to Eddie and is soon linking up with ? down the left-------McQuoid?

Have to say this was an area we needed to improve after loosing Foxi hope this kid can go with the ball ! sounds a good prospect, yet another Howe Babe !

Burnley Babes? I am not sure if that hasn't already been used by another club!!!

Do you think he'll go immediately above Easton in the pecking order? My instinct is that it won't be that clear cut, but Howe showed with McQuoid he's willing to be brave. In terms of being cover on the bench, which is presumably the highest we can expect to see him go for a while, is Danny just a LB? Or can he play CB like Brian? Or is he more of a Fox in being able to fill up a 5-man midfield if the need arises? My gut instinct is that Brian will be on the bench at Forest.

I can't see Danny being on the bench for the forest game (to early) but I'm quite happy with this signing
Totally_Claret
Technically doesn't he need International clearance first before he can play? Cutting it fine for tonight?
turfmanphil
True enough, TMP. How long do these things take? I'll be bolder, and predict we won't see Danny on the becnh against Posh either!
Couch Potato
We can only guess how Eddie rates Easton, maybe he has brought Danny in to spur him on hopefully not! With him being short of match practice I would also say Easton's place is safe....for now. Hopefully he can build up his fitness and provide the edge come the end of the season. Lafferty, Mee, Edgar and Trippier looks an exciting prospect on paper!

Lafferty now has International clearance and gets Shirt Number 3

Good to see another good young player joining us to offer even more defensive cover. This guy could be a great player for us if he keeps developing and progressing. Our defence is starting to look really strong, which reflects in an impressive statistic of 6 clean sheets in 7 Championship games. Who ever said we had vulnerable defence ?!
