Burnley X-Files: Vokes signs for Brighton

22-year old Wolverhampton Wanderers and Wales striker Sam Vokes has signed for Brighton and Hove Albion until the end of the season.

Sam Vokes was of course recently playing for Burnley on loan but returned to Molineux after his loan spell expired on the 15th January. He arrived at Turf Moor in November last year and in the end made just nine appearances for the club scoring two goals.

Towards the end of his spell at the club, Vokes found opportunities limited and despite Eddie Howe hinting he wanted to extend Vokes loan deal, it was probably the lack of games that led to Wolves manager, Mick McCarthy refusing to extend the loan contract.

Vokes had earlier been linked with a move to Brighton and a loan deal looked almost certain after he was reportedly at their FA Cup game against Newcastle in the Amex Stadium. He was probably further impressed by their 1-0 victory over the Premier League side.

Wonder if Howe is wishing he had played him more now? Can McQuoid fill Vokes shoes? We have to hope so unless another striker comes in before the window closes.

As long as Sam gets sent off at the Turf, along with 2 or 3 of his new mates, all will be well.

Would have liked to sign Vokes, just gave us a different look up front. Does anyone know how long has he left on his contract at Wolves, may be cheeky bid in the summer.

What the hell happened there then ??

Austin, JayRod, Pato, Ings, Hines, Stanislav, Wallace, Treacy, McQuoid, McDonald + Youth, thats about 11 players who could be knocking on the door for a starting place where a maximum of only 4 will get a shirt and some may argue only 3 should be getting a shirt if you select McCann, Marney and Bartley. I think Vokes has done the best thing for him and wish him luck with Gus!

Totally agree with VR. We have enough strikers at the club.
