Howe signs Josh McQuoid on loan

Burnley have signed 22 year old Millwall striker, Josh McQuoid on a 93-day loan deal and the Northern Ireland international is immediately available to play in the game against Derby County at Turf Moor this Saturday.

This looks a good move by Eddie Howe, who also managed the player during his time at Bournemouth. Howe has clearly moved quickly to give his squad more options in attack following the hamstring injury to Martin Paterson and the return of Sam Vokes to Molineux.

McQuoid joined the Cherries as a youth in 2006 to make his senior début in May 2007.

The Southampton-born forward signed for Millwall on loan in November 2010, and completed his permanent move to the New Den in January 2011 for an undisclosed fee thought to be around £550,000.

"From last week we have lost three players in Sam, Junior and Pato - three attacking options for us," said Howe.

"We felt we needed to bring one in. I thought that was vitally important and one really that played a various number of positions.

"I think that was crucial to us, which is why Josh became so attractive.

"He is a very talented young player who did really well for me at Bournemouth and scored a lot of goals and deservedly got a move to a higher level. I`m delighted to have him with us," added Howe.

"He`s a versatile type of forward. He can play anywhere across the front line and he can play wide as well, which adds to his attractiveness for us.

"He`s quick, athletic and he`s got a good attitude as well, so I hope he will do well for us."

He has been given squad shirt number 19.

Howe on the official site says he is "quick, athletic and a good attitude as well" take note any players who may not have all those attributes as Eddie has written what he likes in a player. It all makes sense to me and is indeed another signal that the club is working hard to give us the best possible chance of the play-offs.

This is more a 'reactive' rather than 'proactive' signing though welcome though it is! Any injuries/suspensions after the Jan window/loan window closes we wont be able to be even reactive!

something else for you to moan about in the 100 Phil lol

Just as well Cotts didn't make the signing TC! lol

Based on the stats I've been looking at he's not been doing much at Millwall. I am curious to know in what way is he better than Hines or Ings.
Couch Potato
Yes, I was just looking at that too-only scored 10 in 69 at Bournemouth and 1 in 15 at Millwall! Also the 22-year-old has struggled for form and fitness this season, and has started just seven games since joining the Lions permanently last January! In Eddie We Trust! I guess

I'm with you CP his stats don't make the best of reading but hope its because he sets the main striker up. I personally woud stick macdonald or knowles & give them a chance from the bench, I wouldn't want to risk Ings just yet could be a little too soon after his injury although he did score yesterday in the reserves.

I guess Eddie (with the backing of the Booard) is (at a time like this anyway) like a stockbroker who doesn't like to buy stock when it's priced high, but prefers to hunt around the edges looking for things that are currrently undervalued and whose price may go up.
Couch Potato
Looks like we won't get Vokes back then? don't know to much about the lad if anything...time will tell.

I also agree with you Couch, would have preferred one of our current players getting a chance instead. But maybe Eddie rates this lad higher than our current forwards? In Eddie we trust! I also read a rumour of a leftback we are apparently interested in named Lafferty from Derry City, with Easton out of contract at the end of the season could he be the successor? I for one am glad we are being linked with left back and the last Lafferty we had didn't turn out too bad.

Stats, I will just give you one to ponder, JayRod has scored aprox 10% of his efforts at goal this season, yes he has to have 9 attempts before he scores but would you write him off for that stat? I doubt it. In Eddie I am starting to trust......nurse

Not disapointed in the signing by any means - But, it does seem strange to get a player in on loan who isnt playing at a 'lower ranked' team than ourselves.
