Rumour Mill-Poyet looking at Vokes

Brighton & Hove Albion are keeping an eye on Wolves` Welsh international centre forward Sam Vokes according to 'The Argus', the local Sussex rag.

Sam Vokes' loan spell at Burnley comes to an end on Sunday 15th January. Unless the Clarets can extend the loan or even sign the player on a permanent basis, other clubs could be prepared to take him away from Molineux either on loan or on a permanent basis once he returns to his parent club.

The 22-year-old was a second half sub in Burnley`s 1-0 win against nine-man Brighton at The Amex last month.

Vokes may well have already played his last game for Burnley. He has not been given permission by Mick McCarthy to play in the FA Cup at Norwich today and our next match after that is in the Championship against Middlesbrough at the Riverside, one day before his loan contract completes.

It is thought Seagulls boss Gus Poyet wants to sign a target man in the January window to support Craig Mackail-Smith up front.

I am hoping Burnley can still do some sort of deal with Wolves over Sam Vokes. May be crucial if we can't hold on to Jay Rod etc

I'm not 100% on Vokes signing permanently, but saying that it depends on price
Totally_Claret
No brainer to me, gives us something different up front should be our next signing. Extend is loan period and we could lose out like we did with Cork.
Fedupclaret
If Vokes is signed, I think this will mean that Jay has gone, or is going. I cannot see us having 5 strikers ( Charlie, Jay, Pato, Ings, Vokes) plus Zavon Hines on the books together in our squad. IN terms of something different Fedup - What is Ings like? Is Ings similar to Vokes? ( I dont know)
Claretdale
I haven't seen Ings apart from the interview a while back (after his operation). He didn't seem like the biggest of players (178cm + 73kg), so I don't belive we're going to have much physics from him, like we do with Wokes. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing Ings on the field so that everyone can see him play before we jugde him.

The question here is, what is happening to Jay Rod.
cornwallclaret
24 days before the window shuts? Anything could happen!
Couch Potato
Jay Rod has signed a long contract with Burnley cornwall, dont worry hes going nowhere.
Grimsby Claret
Thanks Grimsby, not too worried about Vokes now, although would prefer to keep him. Ones that go seem to do well like Fletcher and Nugent.
cornwallclaret
Has he? Where and when was that announced?
turfmanphil
Jay Rod's contract runs until the end of next season. I think its unlikely anyone will stump up 5m+ for him in this window, which I believe is what we turned down from Southampton in the summer. In the summer we'll be looking for him to extend his contract, otherwise we'll have to sell. Re: Vokes, its hard to see him as a priority when we have plenty cover up front, think Ings is a different type of player Dale, a trickier player not a target man.

"I'll wait and see when he comes back," McCarthy told the Wolverhampton Express & Star on Vokes' future. "There's a fair bit of interest in him, and his loan is up this weekend, so we'll make a decision when he comes back. "He could play for us or end up somewhere else and he hadn't been playing regularly there. But by playing in the Cup, he may have blown his chances." Sky Sports Wed 11/1
