What is it about winning the 'Manager of the Month' award that often proves to be the kiss of death leading to a sequence of poor results?
It's so bad, most Clarets fans will be hoping that Eddie Howe who has been shortlisted for the npower December award will NOT win it!!
Thankfully, he probably won't win with the honour most likely going to Middlesbrough's Tony Mowbray. The Boro manager has engineered 13 points from just five games, one more than Eddie Howe over the same period.
Howe's record is non the less impressive with victories away to West Ham and Brighton followed up by home wins against Doncaster Rovers and Hull City. Only the defeat at home to Pompey spoilt the party!
The other contenders for 'Manager of the Month' are Sean Dyche (Watford) and Brian McDermott (Reading). Reading also picked up 12 points, whilst Watford although picking up only 9 points were undefeated during the month.
Burnley have another interest in the December award results with man-of-the-moment, Kieran Trippier also nominated for the player of the month award along with Alex Pearce (Reading), Nicky Bailey (MIddlesbrough) and Ricardo Vaz Te (Barnsley).
Trippier has certainly been in the news recently. He scored our only goal against Brighton in our 1-0 victory at the Alex Stadium just before Christmas before contoversially being sent off for two bookable offences in the match against Leeds at Elland Road on New Year Bank Holiday Monday this week.
The blow of the sending off and the consequential automatic one match suspension though has been lessened somewhat by the announcement on Wednesday that he had signed a permanent deal with the club for 3.5 years after agreeing to leave his parent club, Manchester City. Trippier had been on a season-long loan after arriving in the summer.
The 21 year old right back has continued to impress and improve during his time at Turf Moor, more recently in December contributing to three successive clean sheets. The club and all Clarets fans will be delighted that he has been recognised for his effort by this nomination.
The result of both awards will be announced tomorrow, Friday 6th January at 10 am
