Rumour Mill-Rivals Move for Marney?

Birmingham, Cardiff and Ipswich are all thought to have Burnley midfielder, Dean Marney on their radar and could be prepared to make a bid in the January transfer window.

Marney still has 18 months left on his current contract. He signed from Hull City in the summer of 2010 and after an indifferent spell at the club now seems an integral player in Eddie Howe's plans.

He struggled earlier in the season to dislodge Marvin Bartley and Chris McCann from their central midfield roles but has recently come back into the reckoning, especially away from home where he is often used as a more defensive, holding midfielder in front of the back four.

Marney has been particularly impressive in recent games either as a central midfielder or holding midfielder and is currently vying for a starting place each week with Marvin Bartley.

Many Clarets fans earlier in the season, when Marney looked to be underperforming and finding opportunities limited may well have not been too concerned about selling the player but that situation may well have changed now.

I might not have been too fussed myself earlier in the season but he has impressed recently and I am beginning to see a role for him now.

He is part of a settled team that is only in need of some tweaking. If he goes we will be on the way to starting afresh. The Board have to be prepared to give a big NO to any approach for any player unless EH wants it if they want BFC to prosper.

The bottom line sadly as always is that given enough of a money incentive they will let him go no matter what effect it has on a settled team or our promotion chances! I live in hope that won't be the case sometime. Come on Hoos, shake 'em up!!

Be amazed if anything happens with Marney!

Well Ipswich's interest is not new. Does Elliott get on with Marney? Cardiff? Well let's swop him for Whittingham then!! ;-)
