Mee Next? Its Official Man City!

Hot on the heels of signing Kieran Trippier on a permanent deal, there is now a strong hint that Burnley could also be in the market to complete a similar deal for Ben Mee.

The defender, curently on loan from Manchester City has impressed this season both at left-back and in his preferred position of centre back.

The 22 year old England international joined Burnley on a season long loan in July last summer and is now along with Trippier a key player in the back four for the Clarets.

Who suggests we might also be seeking a permanent deal for Mee? Well surprisngly this is not coming from media gossip or indeed from fans forums but from the Official Manchester City website itself.

In an article reporting the permanent deal for Trippier they add at the end that, quote:

'Burnley could tie up a deal for another Blues loan star, Ben Mee in the coming days.'

Eddie Howe also seems to suggest such a deal could be on the cards and indeed the statement also suggests that yet another loan player at Turf Moor, Wolves Sam Vokes could be another target.

"In the majority of cases, whenever we take loan players it`s with a view to taking them permanently because I think that`s the best way to use the loan system, said Howe recently.

This is all encouraging news and after the Jack Cork fiasco perhaps the club have learned a lesson or two and are now getting in bids quickly before the opportunity evaporates and other clubs with more money step in and poach our loan players from under our noses.

Things are looking up! If we get Mee and Vokes as well, I will be well-pleased. All we have to do then is keep Jay Rod add some defence/midfield cover and jobs a goodun! Simples!! ;-)

Can't argue with any of that tmp. I thought Xmas was over though ? An excellent New Year present for all of us if it comes off .

Stunning news, just back on the PC and this is superb stuff. It would appear we have loaned players who like us? Lets not overlook all the good work done spending money on the pitch, Gawthorpe and the Centre of Excellence all these factors start to add up and obviously the YOUNG manager is inspiring these youngsters. Chuffed to bits, if we sign Mee I may even go on a diet.

Aye, good news indeed :) Mee would be a good permanent reinforcement, but even with Tripps & Mee, the squad isn't bigger then now.. With Duff out and Tripps banned for one match... Easton on left, Mee + Amougou in middle and Edgar on right.. Not ideal is it? And are only have two defenders shorter then usual..

Oh, and isn't Amougou also on his way out too? That leaves ut with three 1.st team defenders.... Still lacking numbers

I see where you are coming from nor, but its that what if for me that we have overcome, what if Southampton or west ham bid to Man City for Tripps and Mee then we are really in the brown stuff, so signing players who we know have loads of potential is superb imo. Lacking in numbers just like when we went up last time.....

You have a good point Rouge and I agree with you. Having Southampton snapping up another of our players wouldn't be nice at all, but still we are lacking numbers. Injuries will allways occur and the defence is our weakest place in form of numbers. Don't get me wrong, its great to have secured Tripps and having Mee on the cards, but it doesn't change the fact that we are still lacking numbers.

I wonder how close the young lad Tom Anderson is to getting a chance to step up, not seen him that often but every time I have he appears a big confident defender. We could do with at least one more defender signed in this window, be it loan or permanent. Duff, Edgar, Easton, Mee, Trippier and Andre if he stays is the minimum I guess.

Good news early in the window. Hope we keep it up and sign more midfield and defenders, reckon we have been lucky with such a small squad so far. We need some depth in reserve to cope with red cards, injuries etc. I am still hoping EH and Andre can patch up their differences and JayRod loves his birthplace too much to move (and the Board look after one of their prize assets).

This is fantastic news, Trippier is a great young footballer. He plays a great game and has a lot of aspects to his style. Mee also would be a great signing. I just feel they will be let down by Easton, he simply isn't good enough for us. Could this signal Andre going and possibly another defender coming in as well as Mee? KUDOS to the board for backing Eddie!!!!

Again would be happy to see Mee arrive permantely - and i had the same though as nor-claret regarding this not increasing our numbers. But, one step at a time. We are heading in the right direction. Out of interest, how is Kevin Long doing at Accy? I have seen him on the scoresheet a few times but that is not what he is there for - Any chance of him returning and ready for first team action?

Joe McKee is due back from St Mirren too. It will become a hard call do we try and loan an experienced player or two who may not start? Are those players out there that are happy to be an experienced bench warming loanee, I for one am not that sure they exist in droves.

The strategy seems to be to take on loans only if they could become permanent. If that's the case then a bit of bench warming won't do any harm until they get their chance to shine. We do need to decide what to do with these young guns though eg McKee, Long, Fletcher, Harvey, Knowles, Hewitt! If they are good enough, then maybe a bench appearance or two. We have really been scuppered by this new 5 man sub rule though, 7 would have been far better to give these kids experience

Less impressed with Mee than Trippier overall, but he has done quite well for a young lad in what is a tricky position. True, this doesn't increase our numbers, nor would signing some to replace Amougou (if he goes), but as Dale says: one step at a time. After all, Rome wasn't built in a day!

Tend to agree with tmp the 5 man rule does scupper us somewhat at least we could have had a couple young defensive players on the bench to give them some experience and also to cover us when we are short as the Leeds game proved...still hoping we can bring in a couple of new faces at the rear, an area we are sadly lacking but all sounding good so far.

Clarets Player revealed something interesting about the Jan window too during Leeds game! It would appear we are unlikely to do any last minute deals this time becuase we play Forest on transfer deadline night!! We can expect things to be done earlier this time therefore. Just hope if we do sell any high-profile players, that we do it earlier rather than later so we have time to use the money and find replacements if need be before window shuts. Been caught out with that so many times in past!

Signing Mee would be a big, big boost for us. Agree with the guys that want more defensive cover. Let's hope we don't get drawn into bids for yet another striker!

LT today (Tue 4/1) confirming Burnley interest in Mee permanent deal-Mee similarly joined Burnley on loan for the season during the summer and it is understood that talks are also well underway for the 22-year-old to make a permanent switch to Turf Moor during the transfer window. The move for Mee has proved a little more difficult to agree but Burnley remain hopeful of a successful conclusion. City are willing to allow the player to leave and said yesterday that a deal could be tied up in the coming days, with the central defender known to be open to a permanent move. Asked at the weekend whether he would be interested in staying with Burnley, Mee said: 添es, we値l have to see what happens. 的t痴 up to the club to speak to me and have a word with City I guess, so we値l wait and see what happens. 的知 really happy here.
