Jones at the Double

In form Steve Jones continued his scintilating pre-season form, as the Clarets started the season with a 2-0 win over QPR.

The flame-haired frontman scored a second half brace, on his full debut, making him an instant hit with the Turf Moor faithful.

The opening period was tense, with the Clarets taking their time to get into the game, with QPR's Nick Ward going close twice on his Hoops debut, before Burnley came into the game around the quarter mark.

Burnley created their best opening on the half hour mark, when Jon Harley and Jones combined well down the left and the cross, met by Lafferty was headed over.

Chris McCann then tested Rangers keeper Paul Jones, with the former Welsh International snuffing out his well executed long-range strike.

The Clarets went into the break on top, and the breakthrough came less than a quarter of an hour after the restart, with Lafferty proving tenacious, battling keeper Jones for the ball, which ran free for Jones to tuck away with aplomb.

Jones then sealed victory with a 25-yard stunner from Frank Sinclair's pass, to give the Clarets a perfect start to the season.

The Clarets travel to Leicester on Tuesday.
