Rumour Mill-Vokes Signed on Loan?

Rumour Mill-Vokes Signed on Loan?

Reports appeared in the Daily Mail and Daily Express yesterday that Burnley had signed 22 year old Welsh international striker, Sam Vokes on loan from Wolves. Eddie Howe of course certainly knows about the player`s talents having been his boss at Bournemouth. Vokes left Dean Court and signed for Wolves in May 2008 after agreeing a four-year deal but has had to play second fiddle at Molineux since that time only playing 47 times for the club and scoring 6 goals. A succession of loan spells followed at Leeds, Bristol City, Sheffield United and Norwich City.

Vokes is now apparently already at Turf Moor on loan according to some media reports but as yet there has been no official announcement by the club.

The big question on everybody`s lips of course is why would we want another striker with both Paterson and Ings on the steady road to recovery and expected to be available again in the New Year. Austin, Rodriguez, Hines, MacDonald and Fletcher are also of course recognised strikers in our squad too so that would make eight in total if Vokes comes on board.

One fear could be they are resigned to losing Rodriguez in the January window and are bringing Vokes in as a contingency but whatever the reason if true, Clarets fans are also questioning why we are focussing on our attack in the loan market and not it would seem on defence. The defence is crying out for improvement and yet Howe has singularly failed to find any suitable defenders on loan to bring in.

If the rumour is true that we have signed Vokes on loan it would also appear we have beaten both Championship rivals Southampton and Doncaster to his signature. Both were reported in the Mirror to be interested in a loan move for Vokes.

All very odd, no doubt we will know for sure today if this has gone ahead. Think it is loan deadline day today (Fri 18th)

My best guess would be that we are planning to off load Pato as a big wage earner with very little return recently this would then open the door for a disaster if IF someone came along and offered a kings ransome for JayRod. Take both attackers out of the line up and we are left with Austin, Ings, Hines, Fletcher and McDonald. Strong enough? W38
18/11/2011 08:35:00
Waldron38 not sure any of it matters, we aren't strong enough as a squad to pull the skin of a rice pudding, so tinkering around the front seems to matter not, unless we start stopping the goals going into our net we could play all 8 strikers we wouldn't win owt DISPASSIONATE at best with this club and the players at the moment

It intrigues me that all the talk is about defence, and I am no different. But we've not been banging in the goals at a fast rate either. Maybe an average of 1 a game since Forest?

I couch, but we do have Pato ,Ings, Hines, Mcdonald et al as possible replenishments, did we need another ? any way I presume the clubs press officer if trying to get this out as "a good news story" to off set the news of the accounts and Fletcher going as of yet no full confirmation by the club
18/11/2011 13:18:00
Has the club's press officer said anything on this yet? Maybe hollins - greeetings and all good wishes- to develop your ideas, he's just throwing draft after unsatisfactory draft into the bin? Or maybe it's quiet because he's gone off with Fletch? So many rumours about today, what's the difference in starting a new one here?!?*!:-) Perhaps Howe read on here that Vokes was a forward, not a defender, and managed to stop the deal just in time? This would certainly fit the current total mismanagement and meltdown hypothesis that TMP is putting forward.

Signed today The 22-year-old has joined Burnley on a deal running until January 15

Very worried that the Board are planning to offload Pato and Jay. Then spend SOME of the proceeds on the promised new players.

Vokes is a very good player he will do well

January 15th sounds like a date when we will know if Pato and Jay are attracting bids. I feel this season is going to be remembered in years to come as either the start of the road to glory or as I fear at the moment the road to lower league mediocrity and financial stability. W38
