Here We Go, Here We Go...Again!!

Here We Go, Here We Go...Again!!

So here we go again as we start our campaign for 2006-7 with a much healthier squad than I can remember for sometime. Maybe we still dont have enough depth of quality and the squad is still relatively small [especially if we soon sell the four transfer-listed players].

However, we seem to have far more options in selecting a team than for most of last season and choosing the midfield in particular is quite a task! One that I suspect even Steve Cotterill may still be struggling with!

We start the season with a squad of 22 players although four of these are currently still on the transfer-list.

I think we can probably safely assume that Gifton Noel-Williams, Danny Karbassiyoon and Duane Courtney will not be Clarets for much longer assuming the offers come in.

One wonders however if Micah Hyde may have impressed enough in the pre-season friendlies to perhaps be retained and it will be interesting to see if he is played and showcased over the first few games of the season.

The Club released the new team photograph today. I could not help notice that the four transfer listed players were each on the end of a row. If they go, some photo editing software may well easily come in handy!

The good news is we appear to have a fully fit squad to chose from with the exception of the injured Karbassiyoon[knee]. Danny Coyne is not quite ready but will be on the bench.

Of course we have our new pre-season signings as well, although technically speaking two of them, Gray and Mahon had already arrived albeit on loan and playing for the Clarets at the end of last season .

They have now been joined by the two from Crewe, with the pacy Steve Jones and utility defender, Stephen Foster fitting in well. Jonah seems to have found his goalscoring touch in the friendlies so lets hope that continues against higher quality opposition.

The key to our success this season may well be the performance of the trio, Mahon, Jones and Gray. Assists, pace and goals are what we need from these lads and in combination we might just get that!

We also congratulate Wayne Thomas in becoming our new club captain. Steve Cotterill is quoted as saying its like having another signing after Thommo hardly featured last season mainly due to two cruel injuries.

So things look promising as we start the campaign tomorrow against QPR although its a bit of a lottery choosing the team so I wont even attempt to for this match. The Sunday papers, betting houses and pundits have as usual been unkind to us in their predictions, some even suggesting relegation. We dont care, we are Burnley, super Burnley from the North!

QPR have also just sold Dan Shittu to WBA for a reported £3 million. They also have a number of injury concerns. QPR have doubts over strikers Kevin Gallen and Marc Nygaard, while fellow foward Paul Furlong has a thigh injury.

Egutu Oliseh also has a thigh problem and defender Dominic Shimmin is banned, but midfielders Martin Rowlands, Marc Bircham and Steve Lomas should figure.

I think the omens are good and we will start the season with a win. 2:1 to the Clarets!

Oh go on then I will have a stab at the team:

Jenson,Duff,Thomas,Foster,Harley,James O'Connor,McCann,Elliott,Mahon,Gray,Jones

Subs: Coyne,McGreal,Lafferty,Spicer,Hyde

Burnley are destined to be among the front runners this season . The have enlisted two good strikers and besides their defence with the addition of one new player will stand good . All fans are very optimistic about the club this year . The press pundits are saying otherwise .
