Stech It Up 'Em, Marek!

West Ham goalkeeper Marek Stech will make a trial appearance for Burnley's second-string this afternoon against Oldham at the Latics training ground (Kick-Off: 2pm). The 21 year old is expected to start.

Eddie Howe knows all about Stech having previously signed him in an emergency loan deal during his time at Bournemouth in 2009.

Stech joined West Ham back in 2006 at the age of just 16 but the Hammers are now preparing to let the Czech 6'3 stopper depart Upton Park after he refused to sign a new contract due to his desire for first team football. He is currently their fourth choice keeper behind Rob Green, Peter Kurucz and Ruud Boffin. Stech last played for them back in October of last year in the Hammers 3-1 Carling Cup win over Stoke.

He has also been thwarted too because of an agreement with his former club, Sparta Prague in which additional appearances for West Ham are now subject to extra payments to his former club. West Ham have been unwilling to pay a further instalment due to the player's refusal to agree a new contract leaving the player in limbo somewhat! The keeper has also recently had a trial at Ipswich

Should the trial at Burnley be successful and we sign him, Stech will become the third West Ham player we will have brought to Turf Moor this summer, following the signings of Zavon Hines and Junior Stanislas.

Just one question, why the hell do we need another keeper on our books? It would presumably still be fourth choice at Burnley too, so hardly going to get a game? Sign some bleeding defenders FFS!

Unless one of our 3 keepers is fishing for a move because he is not playing every week? Now who could that be? I think we have accused the "management" of not planning ahead and so if they are thinking about the January window and the possibility of losing a keeper, I for one support them in a bit of forward planning.

Pity the forward planning has not involved getting the squad size sorted BEFORE the start of the season and whatever might be happening in January our priorities must surely be the here and now and the here and now says our squad is not big enough with any new injury making things almost critical. Dont really think a 4th keeper is anywhere near the top of the list and I would prefer to see defenders and even midfielders/wingers given trials [Edited by turfmanphil]

Agree with your sentiment tmp but if a potential recruit for an area where we maybe light is available for a trial...why not? When is Beast out of contract? Next summer he leaves for free or goes out on loan in January? It may not be the biggest priority but hats off to those that are trying to build and second guess problems.
