Howe to Ponder Pogba?

Eddie Howe was watching a Reserves game between Manchester United and Fulham on Monday night at Altrincham`s Moss Road ground. United went top of the Premier Reserve League after beating the London outfit but Howe was more interested in the performance of some of the United players on show. It is thought that he might be particularly keen in bringing hot prospect, Paul Pogba to Turf Moor on loan. The 18 year old French man has yet to make his first-team debut for the Red Devils but he is highly rated and has already represented France at U16, U17, U18 and U19 level. The powerful midfielder can play both offensively and defensively and is known for his dribbling skills and eye for goal. Some have even suggested he could be a future Patrick Vieira or Abou Diaby.

Pogba seems to be close to making his debut for United and could be involved in their Carling Cup third round clash at Leeds United next week and maybe future rounds if he continues to impress.

Sir Alex had this to say recently about his rising starlet:

"Pogba`s in the first-team training set-up now, so that`s the first step,

"After that, it`ll likely depend on when we decide to make changes. He`ll probably be involved in the League Cup and that`ll be his chance to establish himself in the squad."

If Pogba is so close to making his United breakthrough, you would think Sir Alex might be reluctant to release him on loan so the chances of bringing him to Turf Moor could be low. Another problem could be the finance side, would someone of his undoubted talent be affordable even on loan to a club like Burnley; a club that has taken great strides to reduce both the salary levels at the club and the squad numbers?

Absolute minimum, one experienced quality midfielder and one ditto defender, young prospects are good but they need an example to learn from on the field. EH and the Board must know this. Anything else means what happens this season is pure guesswork (repeats of Derby and Middlesborough) and I woulld put my money on winning the lottery rather than betting on a top 6 place for the Clarets and I suspect the Board would too.

Dear Eddie, Pogba is without doubt a great prospect but so is Joe McKee. Look at our problems recently and any man with half a footballing brain will see that we need experience. So as others say on here.........ffs sort it out....find a leader not another great prospect for the future....I remember Guerrero!

Pogba plus another midfielder with experience fair dos..Pogba has a Cork replacement on his own? Someone having a Laugh!! Surely the Board must have realised by now what potential jeopardy they have put this club under with such a ruthless clear out in the summer and little replacement on the experience or quality front? What a lottery of a season this could become, spot on comments from Cornwall there

Club site says all loan deals now "on ice". EH is "happy with current squad". Must have nothing to do with us having a limited budget to contribute towards their wages and BFC's inevitable relegation battle this season not looking an attractive proposition for a loanee/their club? Wish someone at the club was straight at what is going on behind the scenes at the club.

ELP you say"Wish someone at the club was straight at what is going on." But thats exactly what Eddie's interview today does. He is very honest in saying that we were unable to get the more experienced players like Shotton becuase their existing clubs want them in their 25 and that there just arent (m)any other experienced players available. I just hope he's trying to manage expectations till 1st October when the 93 days loan rule would mean we could take a loanee and then buy him in January window without him returning to existing club

I like the honesty from Howe, I have just read the official site and it appears he is saying what the majority on here are saying, which is, we need experience not youth or loans that are going to bench warm at best. Maybe its time to go to Plan B and put Bikey alongside McCann and Bartley with Austin, JayRod and Junior as our front 6 at Posh.

I think you have a fair point Hollins, some may remember I asked the question about Mears and Eagles and getting them to sign an extension months ago. If its obvious to a supporter then paid management in the club must have either been blinkered or had blind faith, whichever it was we are definitely missing Fox, Eagles, Cork and possibly on a good day Wade. Please don't mention Captain and Leadership I may just flip!

Let's get real shall we Shotton ain't coming I doubt anybody else will, who wants to come to Burnley with no ambition sold all their best players, hovering near the relegation zone, you could all see this coming if you asked yourselves, all out and youngsters in no experience what so ever at this level, I have no idea what it's all about but it ain't going to work, yep I watched the interview with Howe on Clarets player nobody out there, I can understand that to a point but we are short at the back with no cover and experience why we don't play Bikey you know who I mean, bring back Carlisle from Preston he his not always the best but is proven at this level at least and that could rub off on the youngsters, I am toying between Howe cannot command older players or with the board trying to trying to get the wage structure down I suspect a bit of both and we are now in the sorry state we are in after gracing the Premiership this should not be where we are at...sad but true!!

Well said 8c8. Without wanting to sound smug, this was all predictable from the time we failed to show ambition and try and stay in the top flight but even I didn't expect such a fast decline in our fortunes and chances. I may as well keep saying 'Period' bc since the club are clearly bleeding all fans dry with a steady stream of bull***** statements whilst we look more and more likely to struggle at least this season. I am glad many are now seeing the reality of our predicament

It is abundantly clear that BFC have no aspirations of a return to the Prem. They will not pay the going rate to sign quality experienced players and will not fund an attractive salary structure. As has been said this lack of ambition does not make BFC an attractive proposition for potential loanees so that avenue closes. EH may not be happy with this situation and I would be surprised if he were, in fact I would not be surprised if he pursued his career with a more ambitious club sooner rather than later. As to future success for BFC I can only see us possibly winning League 1 and doing the seesaw between the Champioship and Legue 1. Given that the fans are happy with that situation and keep the gates up, togethr with the occasional transfer of a successful player the club should remain solvent. which seems to be the prime objective of the Board and may be viewed by many, look at Plymouth Argyll, as no bad thing.

Agree with TMP above. Our Scouting 'network' doesnt just exist in August or January. A month into a season, we should not be scratching around for experience. We should have had contingencies already in place and actioned. We have basically sold the experience and I cannot see our Board of 'Directors' had a strategy in place to replace. I dont blame EH; I do those above him with the purse strings. Lets see if we finish higher than Blackpool, who with Phillips and Ferguson, knew they would lose some of their best players and had immediate plans to replace with experience.
