Rumour Mill- Burnley's One Last Eaves Drop?

Burnley are awaiting the loan market to open on Thursday next week with Clarets fans hoping we can add to the squad following a disappointing summer transfer window which closed on Tuesday night.

Stoke defender, Ryan Shotton has already been linked with a loan move to Turf Moor after the club failed to bring him in on a permanent deal during the transfer window.

The latest speculation regards a possible loan move for 19 year old, Bolton striker, Tom Eaves.

Burnley were linked with a move for him during Laws tenure last August after being in a battle with Bolton to sign him from Oldham Athletic. In the end not unsurprisingly he joined the Premier League outfit but Owen Coyle has still to give him his first team debut.

Eaves joined Oldham Athletic's Centre of Excellence as a youth player at Under-15 age group having previously played for Crewe Alexandra at youth level. He made just 15 appearances for Oldham before joining Bolton for an undisclosed fee, thought to be in the region of £350,000 on the 12th August 2010. Coyle had probably been impressed with the lad after he scored a hat-trick against his Bolton side in a pre-season friendly in July 2010; one month before he moved to the Reebok after agreeing a three-year deal.

A 19 year old loan striker, not played once for Bolton and only 15 for Oldham? Doesn't seem logical. Could be cover I guess and a replacement for Ings until fit.

I can only summarise this as lazy journalism. I doubt and hope we wont be in the market for yet another striker!

Yep, I too am struggling to see why we might be remotely interested in another striker. Fair enough if they intended to bring him in on a permanent for the future but a loan? Only thing I can think of is that he is hacked off at Bolton and might be tempted by Burnley if the face fits and Burnley like the look of him via a loan spell first

This has got to be a joke, he wont even make the bench. Mind you he is 19 right age for Eddie Kid.

Suzanne Geldard in LT saying: 'BURNLEY are set to secure striker Tom Eaves on loan from Bolton Wanderers when the window re-opens next week. I understand the deal was set up in principle when Chris Eagles and Tyrone Mears were sold to the Premier League club in July.'

I read the LT article too TurfMan, if the deal was set up in principle during the Eagles and Mears deal hopefully it ended when we signed Danny Ings. Where is the logic bringing in a youth striker when we have Alex Mac, Wes and Knowles? With both Wes ans Alex having signed first team contracts would Eddie not prefer to give them a try?

I think you are right re Ings, but not sure if the deal is already set in stone to the extent that Burnley now have to take Eaves come what may? Doesn't seem to make sense otherwise and I agree with your sentiments YC

We have 4 defender owned by the Club that the management are inclined to use, Edgar, Bikey, Easton and Duff! Why on earth are we looking at another striker when we have so few options in other ares of the squad?? I just dont understand our approach at this time.

I thought one priority was to reduce the wage bill. This signing will do nothing for the club unless he comes on zero wages. Please, please spend some money on the defence.

Agree with DD (Welcome to VB by the way or have I already said that?lol). We have to sort out the defence although if we get Shotton on loan that will be some progress

I read that Shotton has been named in both Stoke's Europe and Cup teams. I think it would now seem unlikely that they would send him out on loan, or at least on a long term loan?

It's highly unlikley that Shotton will be in out line up anytime soon. I agree with you Yorkshire claret on this point. It's time to cast the net elsewhere and find other defensive options that can realistically make a difference to our season.

Bit more of an update on Eaves injury. He is currently out injured, having suffered a knee problem in the Trotters’ pre-season game against Orlando at the end of July. It was feared the 19-year-old had damaged cruciate knee ligaments and could be out for nine to 12 months, but Bolton boss Owen Coyle confirmed Eaves will be back this month, saying at the time: “We’ve had the scans and we don’t think there has been any major damage. “We’re looking at one or two months as opposed to nine to 12, so obviously we’re absolutely delighted.”
