Danny Out, Danny In...Ings can Only Get Better?

19 year old striker, Danny Ings has today signed for Burnley after agreeing a four year contract.

He was at the club today to discuss personal terms and complete a medical after his former club, Bournemouth agreed an undisclosed fee with the club as announced over the weekend.

It is thought the deal could involve a 1 million transfer fee.

Ings will wear the Number 14 shirt and will be eligible to play in our next game at home to Cardiff City this Saturday as well as in the Carling Cup competition. Our second round tie against Barnet at Turf Moor has now been confirmed for the night of Tuesday 23rd August (Kick-Off:7:45 pm)

At least this is at long last some good news after a torrid week last week when we lost Danny Fox to Southampton amidst growing concern and anger amongst Clarets fans that our squad seemed to becoming depleted.

Ings becomes the fifth new face at Turf Moor this summer and our third permanent signing.

Talking about his move, Ings said:

'Ed and Jason brought me through when I was first at Bournemouth and gave me the opportunity and it's good to be back working with them, day-in, day-out to try and improve as a player,' .

'There were a few teams that were interested but the whole time there was interest there was only one place I wanted to be, with my old management team.

'It means a lot to me that they are going to give me a chance and hopefully I can repay them.

I unashamedly nicked the 'Ings can only get better' title off Twitter but it does make me laugh!

Does anyone know if their is any truth that we are about to sign another striker just been reading on another site that we have all but signed a barring medical former England under 21 Zavon Hines 22 apparently a nominal fee has been agreed after failing to agree a new contract with West Ham

So as it stands, JayRod, Austin, Ings and McDoald with sicknote still to get back to fitness. Not the end of the world.

Depends what you mean by 'not end of the world', maybe not in terms of 'rebuilding' but not good in terms of 'promotion this season'surely? Austin not exactly firing on all cylinders yet, Ings unproven at this level and more a long-term prospect and MacDonald not exactly broken through into first team yet? Jay Rod's mind dreaming of playing for an ambituous club? I dare say some would think being in League 1 is not the end of the world but at the moment based on the Palace dross we are more likely to be playing there than in the Prem!!

must say i agree with turfman, watching austin against burton was frustrating, poor first touches, bad control and missed an absolute sitter at the back post in second half. although i think ings is a great signing with huge potential he is not the lad to bang in 20 plus goals a season which we need to push for promotion. does this rumour on hines have any legs or just chinese whispers?? would be good signing however if the rumour is true about hines i feel there maybe summut happening behind the scenes with jay rod?? whatever happens lets hope jay is in claret and blue come september.

All this talk about strikers is hiding the fact that we need to build from the back. A leaky defence will keep losing us matches, fix that then we need aclose look at the midfield, without a good engine room we will win nothing.

Interesting pieandpeas, I thought Austin played really well against Burton albeit against a League Two side. He's not a striker to run into blind alleys but I thought he took up good positions throughout, won a penalty and scored a super goal. He missed an easy one to against Watford but at least he was in a good position. Was surprised he didn't start at Palace. I see Ings as the 4th striker we would have bought anyway and Hines is perhaps the replacement for Pato, so I doubt Jay Rod's sale is imminent (however I understand why some might doubt). Not sure why we couldn't have bagged these players earlier though given that Ings is so well known to EH and also Hines is out of contract.

Only suggestion I can make to your last point CC, is my usual one that Bfc, along with many other clubs, are trying to put the brakes on the player salary inflation that's wrecking the game when buying... but that sometimes the very same clubs are working against that when selling players... and with agents almost undoubtedly agreeing with whoever says anything that makes them richer. In that context, if you've got a PL parachute, everyone wants their part of it, while you're trying to save some for a parachute-less future, and make sure you spend wisely now. I'd expect that all the Board and Eddie were in 100% agreement on this back in March, but that debates within the Board would have - like those on here - been getting steadily more lively as time has worn on.

At least, with a player like Ings, the lad knows and likes working with the current management. I got the impression last season that some of our now-departed old guard didn't!
