Clarets International: Pato Fitness Probem

Clarets International: Pato Fitness Probem

Martin Paterson will miss Northern Ireland`s Euro 2012 qualifier against the Faroe Islands at Windsor Park on Wednesday.

He had been expected to make a start for Nigel Worthington's men after receiving his first international call-up in a year

Pato came off at half-time yesterday in the 2-2 draw with Watford blaming a lack of match fitness.

Speaking about the situation Burnley boss Eddie Howe said:

'Martin was just not feeling 100 per cent. I wouldn't say it was a recurrence of any injury, but he said he couldn't play to his full potential, so he had to come off.

'We need to make sure we get him 100 per cent. He has done all his pre-season and been fine, so it came as a bit of a surprise because I thought he looked quote sharp in the first half as well.

'He won't go with Northern Ireland now though. We will try and speak to them and tell them we need him here with us.'

Clarets fans tough will no doubt be worried after losing Pato to a persistent thigh strain for most of last season. Hopefully this is just a fitness problem and not a recurrence of the old injury problem.

Pato was also in the news this week with yet more speculation that Pompey want to bring him to Fratton Park. Portsmouth gaffer and our former manager, Steve Cotterill seems persistent in his attempts to sign the striker and he is now thought to be considering whether to make an improved offer after having a £2.5m bid rejected.

I am worried about Pato. He looked underpar to be honest in the Sunderland friendly and was clearly underperforming against Watford before coming off at half-time. Just hope this realy has nothing at all to do with the old injury problem. It is bound to fuel debate again that it might be worth cashing in now by letting him go to Pompey! The problem is though we already need a striker and losing Pato would make that two we need at least with just a few weeks left to sort it out.

Lossing patto means we have more cash to put towards the funds we already have to bring in one or even a pair of new strikers for me we will need two anyway if Autin or jay gets injured we will be in trouble, cant see Pompy going for this deal now we should have off loaded this week ...

Surely the club would not be daft enough to sell both Pato (Pompey) and Jay Rod (Saints) would they? Surely there has to come a time when they are not seduced by cash alone ? Problem is I reckon this club are in more of a financial pickle than they are letting on and their actions or lack of them pre-season supports that view. Looking at that farce of a game against Watford should be enough for some fans to realise we have a bloody mountain to climb if we are to stand any chance of promotion this season

I kind of agree with you tmp regarding the financial pickle that our club is in, regarding Pato he didnt look right yesterday and for what ever reason it may be it is a concern. Jay rod is another matter cannot really see what the Club can gain from selling JD, and if the Club did consider letting both JD and DF i think EH would be considering his future at BFC because surely he did not sign for all the good players to be sold. After yesterday game even though we played some good stuff i feel we all four player short of a good side and thats without the loss of Pato Jrod and fox.

Good grief - what negativity! And this while we are 8th in the division! (OK helped by alphabetical order). Unless we get a silly offer I can't see Pato, Fox or JayRod going anywhere soon. After the match yesterday I was worried that he had aggravated his old injury. After hearing our manager quoting Pato as saying that he "couldn't play to his full potential", it did cross my mind that he might be doing an Andy Gray ("can't play because my head isn't right") - surely Pato wouldn't do this - would he?

Here's another paranoid conspiracy theory, though this may be considered more positive by some! The whole thing was prearranged between Pato and EH to get Pato out of NI duty so he can work on fitness and tactics through the full week with his club.

Emm so now the club are owning up to it being a thigh problem according to LT saying he will miss next two games.'MARTIN Paterson is expected to miss at least two games after pulling out of international duty with another thigh problem.' The problem is not thought to be serious though but it's bound to cause doubt
