Keith Treacy Nearly A Claret!

Burnley look set to make their first permanent signing of the summer with news that Preston winger, Keith Treacy will be discussing personal terms with the club tomorrow (Monday 1st August)

Both Preston and Burnley have agreed a fee for the 22 year old former Blacburn Rovers player.

The Republic of Ireland international was absent from Preston`s friendly with Wigan today fueling speculation a deal was imminent.

The Deepdale club are reported to have now accepted the latest offer from Burnley. By all accounts their fourth of the summer!

Preston chairman Maurice Lindsay told the Lancashire Telegraph:

"I have personally turned down three offers from Burnley for Keith but their final offer had to be accepted.

"The offer for Keith, which was all the cash upfront, was one that we could not refuse."

Lindsay continued:

"Burnley`s offer today was conditional upon an immediate agreement which meant that Keith would be unable to play (against Wigan).

"I suppose they were making sure that he avoided any injury. Either way, we had no option."

Well the long wait by Clarets fans for our first permanent signing of the summer looks to be over.

Hope Treacy deal goes through but also this one http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11708_7074473,00.html

Looks like a straight cash deal. Wonder how much has been agreed? No doubt it will be 'undisclosed' again! Cort still looks stranded then, unwanted and unloved?
turfmanphil
Yep.official site saying deal ageed but'undisclosed'! So much for transparency! Lil.Boyd article already up mate

I was just commenting on Treacy on the Boyd link then this came up, if you want to know what I said you will have to go there lol

Whatever doubts there have been, I reckon Eddie will make the most of Treacy.
Mike Mada
All the money up front - and Eddie is apparently strapped for cash because of the many instalments that our sales come in (Kilby interview). Sound business sense...not! But as for Treacey - decent signing. The Howie babes are shaping up well!

Now I could say the club had played a blinder on this but it more likley to have been circumstantial (hope I got that word right)..... fire up the press with a whisper that Burnley were going else where for a winger and Maurice Lindsey's out of his chair.... this has to be a £1M cash deal If we listen to the Chairman on player saying the Mears Eagles deal is £1M for each of there 3 year contracts we have probably banked this now and it en route to Preston Tuesday morning! Eddies been keen on this guy so lets see what we make of him................ have to say this deal has been like pulling teeth and for a poxy £1M you really do have to ask what has been going on and why its been so difficult to pull this together, fair play to BFC they have communicated the news quickly

At last a quality ish signing (not on loan) A million pounder according to Hollinsclaret. Will he start on Saturday?
Grimsby Claret
HAS TO BE A QUALITY STRIKER NEXT !! Patto and Austin a mile of the standard for me
hollinsclaret
He will start I should think providing of course he agrees personal terms and passes a medical

I just wonder if Treacy was always earmarked as a potential replacement for Eagles since we had been linked with him virtualy the whole summer. Maybe they were contingency planning afterall? So we now appear to have found our replacements for both Mears (Trippier) and Eagles (Treacy). Do we need one now for Cork? Also totally agree with HC about needing a quality striker. Pato/Austin both looked underpar to me on Saturday but we do need to give them more time

I quite like this quote from Hulme at PNE regarding Treacy ....... “At times he dazzled the Championship last season – when Keith wanted to play, no one could handle him. The thing is, he has shown up for pre-season and clearly wants to play." “He had a little break because he had played international football, and after coming back looked in good condition and raring to go. I believe he spoke to the manager about staying and helping get us promoted

Any one think that is why Boyd has been spoken about who thinks its plausible that could Treacy fill for Eagles and Boyde fills for J C ?
hollinsclaret
Hope Treacy is more consistant than Eagles.

After all the doom and gloom of the summer I am now getting quite enthusiastic about the coming season. Eddie Howe seems to be putting together a good young squad. This signing is a good start
canadaclaret
Doom and gloom's not worth the hassle, Canada. Leave the directors and chief exec and the manager to deal with what they're reimbursed to deal with, and put your feet up. :-)

I didn't go on Saturday but on the highlights on Clarets Player Jay looked very impressive in the number 9 shirt and strong as an ox. He was generally played on the left of a 5 man mid (or front 3) last season. I think Treacy coming in means Jay plays in the middle and hope that is the case.

I hope we have seen the last of any experiments involving out-and-out strikers on the wing. Pato & Austin though still have a lot to prove based on the Black Cats game
turfmanphil
Austin still has it to do, but Pato doesn't need to prove anything to me. His goal against Reading in the semi play-off was one of the best goals I've ever seen, and wouldn't have been any better off the boot of Messi. Pato's injuries in recent seasons have been a set-back , but give him a chance and he'll soon be back with a bang.

I've started a thread on Charlie in the forums.
