It's Monday and it looks like Burnley 0 Bolton 2 !

Well it's 6:30 pm now on Monday evening with news filtering down that both Mears and Eagles have accepted personal terms with Bolton.

With only a medical to follow, it now looks virtually certain both players will be playing for Owen Coyle next season, leaving the Clarets just two weeks before the new season kicks off to find suitable replacements and bring in the additional 2-3 quality players original targeted by Eddie Howe.

Any hope that the gloom around Turf Moor would be lifted today with the announcement of a new signing would appear to have evaporated unless there is a late announcement before midnight.

We had been reliably informed that a new signing was imminent this week; one that could indeed be announced as early as today.

Oh well lets see what Tuesday brings!!

Linked now to Manchester City's Vladimir Weiss as Chris Eagles replacement but as yet can see no firm speculation in the media just Twitter gossip. Same goes for rumour that Burnley have made a £500k bid for Charlton's Scott Wagstaff

You know TFM having scanned the pages of every web site on earth for the last 6 weeks waiting on an announcement of some kind I now find myself just urging a bit of caution here ! (yea couch never thought he hear the day when I urged some caution ) But I would rather get this right than feel the club had to do something to keep fans happy, it really needs to be a selection of the right players and not just a rush on numbers, I would rather start a blank than go blindly into quick fixes .... what are your thoughts ?? (although Vladimir Weiss would be a thrilling acquisition and we do seem to have a linked relationship with city at the moment ) do'nt wanna use the word feeder and developer club for them but they have trusted us with a couple of cracking players and Weiss really would send out a statement of intent from us

If we get Weiss he is a better all round player than eagles he can tackle & plays with more concistency would be a very good addition. we need Leon Cort now to go and play where he is going to get regular footbal 1st or 2nd div and with 4 plus more signings we have a much stronger squad than the start of last year

In Howe we trust I would say, he seems to be saying he knows what he wants and keeps mentioning the word quality so if he wants these players we have to trust his judgement?

Que sera, I reckon. I'm pretty sure that Eddie would have understood the financial circumstances on appointment here and his language has always been positive, constructive and sure of himself. I'm thinking that although it's a late completion to the squad (and was it not only the week before last that Eddie was hinting that it would all be late). I think we might all be pleasantly surprised at how well this season pans out. Good to see that 58% of the fans still think the board are doing OK!

inevitable, was only a matter of time with these 2! eagles and mears gone with judas back to his dust bin. whoever we target i am sure EH can work his magic like he did at bournemouth. Weiss would be quality addition (not sure how likely this is to hapen though) lets forget all the doom and gloom and get behing eddie and the lads!! come on you clarets....ps, anybody have any news on pato? personally i hope he stays, gives 110% every game, for me he needs to stay.

Totally agree with Pato. He has a point to prove and is a persistent irritant to defences as well as having the sniffer instinct around goal.

Bolton fan in peace here. If you get Weiss i think he would be a great signing for Burnley - he was on loan at Bolton the season before last, and played pretty well. I think you have a great manager in Eddie Howe, best of luck for the season chaps

Weiss, Holden and Wilshere were, of course, the players we were told Coyle wanted to bring to the Turf at the time I and most posters that I can recall on VB wanted some defenders and tacklers to put a stop to all those multi-goal away defeats, the 5-3 horror at West Ham being the most recent I had witnessed. (When incidentally Eagles played brilliantly in a thrilling but pointless comeback.) My thoughts at the time were that Coyle was just feeding his habit, and these were all just the next Guerreros. And maybe he was? But maybe they were the right players to graft onto Bolton's dull but strong spine? And maybe that's why he was scouting them, allegedly for Burnley, but in reality for his next instantly exciting but never yet long-lived motivational experiment? Or maybe they'd have been the spark for a heroic triumph over the fall towards relegation that had already begun for us, with no win for weeks, and a manager beginning to look short of ideas for what to do about it. I don't need to tell anyone where Jack Wilshere has gone on to. Weiss was on our screens at the World Cup. Holden amazed me, after breaking his leg early in his Bolton career, by becoming one of the, if not the, PL's leading tacklers last year. But if Coyle had come to me asking for my money to buy these players given the obvious shortcomings of his Claret team at the time, I'd have said to him that they were not what we needed, and kept my hands in my pockets. But Weiss on today's Turf? I think we're all a bit scared about publicly admitting to harbouring hopes just now. So, for once I'll shut up.

Front runners for Eagles replacement according to LT could be Keith Treacy (increased effort to sign),James Henry (Millwall) and Anthony McNamee (Norwich) plus Adam Smith for Mears (loan)
