Rumour Mill-Is Someone Having a Lafferty?

According to the Scottish Sun, Rangers have rejected Burnley's offer of 1 million plus defender,Andre Bikey for ex-Clarets striker Kyle Lafferty.

The Northern Ireland international was a 3.25 million signing from Burnley in June 2008 and he didn't exactly endear himself to the Clarets faithful back then after dissing the club in the Irish press. But would we welcome him back now or more to the point why would the ambitious striker want to even contemplate a return to the Championship?

Lafferty was bang on form for the Gers last season netting eight goals in their final ten games. The goal tally also included a hat-trick in a 5-1 win against Kilmarnock which helped confirm Rangers as SPL Champions for the third consecutive season!

The 23 year old striker would surely prefer to stay at Ibrox though and it is thought new Rangers gaffer, Ally McCoist sees Lafferty as a key part of his long-term plans. Well I wonder what Kyle is thinking at this moment in time when he reads the speculation and spends a month recovering from his groin injury?

Well that would certainly rate highly on the ambitious scale! But you cant help think it's a load of old bollox!! lol [Edited by turfmanphil]

I can't also work out in my mind why we would want another striker. It seems to be our strongest department at the moment unless of course we think Pato may be off to Pompey! Poor Bikey too,if he left what would the centre of defence look like? Duff/Mee or Edgar/Mee? Not even thinking about Cort!!
turfmanphil
He can stay up there! I wouldn't want him bsck at the Turf. Disruptive arrogant not to mention everytime i hear reports on the radio from rangers he is either looks like he's going to be sent off or has been, we don't need him he's a liability!
ruane
Now Couch what were you saying about a villian on the pitch in the threads this week lol .... cue the bad boy himself ! .... its never gonna happen thiough guys he's a life long rangers fan they love his celtic hatred no way ally will sell hes a good friend of my nephews
hollinsclaret
It better not happen, his goalscoring record is a joke. All of the football fans in my family support Rangers, apart from me, so I have therefore been to a good few Rangers matches. Lafferty has been below par in all of these games. He did start to build up a bit of momentum at the end of the season but naturally, he is not a clinical goalscorer. It would also be rediculous to part with our best centre back and leave ourselves vulnerable at the back. Especially when we already have three strikers competing for first team football, and our attack is our strongest area. The rumour is absurd and a good manager like Eddie wouldnt even think about doing something that stupid.

Don't think the vast majority of Burnley fans would want him back after his devious carryings on before he went to Rangers. He's been that good at Rangers I'd almost forgotten about him!!

I think we are safe chaps! Daz Bentley tweeted this earlier today-'Just awoken to bizarre link with Lafferty. Absolute nonsense! '
turfmanphil
Wouldn't mind getting a few quid for Bikey - he's of the same ilk as Carlisle, I guess, did a good job for a while and definitely not right if we want to push on. Strong in the air maybe, but goes mentally AWOL on the ball much too often for me (or is the Mee - ha!)
Mike Mada
Football whaat a great game it is! Bikey for me is our best central defender, midfield he is fairly clueless but would be first on the team sheet when selecting the defence followed by Mears then Fox and a n other from Edgar, Mee, Duff and Cort probably in that order. Weather great over here!
VinRogue
Yeah agree VR re Bikey! He's our best central defender..although sometimes prone to that 'On yer Bikey' moment! Feel a bit edgey that maybe his face don't fit at the club under Howe! Hope I am wrong!
turfmanphil
I like Bikey, just needs to keep his adventurous spirit under control. No way we should let him go, at least until we have a better player under contract, and even then we should keep him, with quality alongside him who knows how good he could be.
cornwallclaret
burnley have made 600k bid for micheal symes
afcb4life
Also agree that Bikey is our best central defender. Granted he has this 'will he get this one' look about him sometimes, but he almost always does, and then his distribution is second to none. More or less agree with your order of selection as well VR, and also agree with tmp's question regarding Bikey and Howe, although when finally selected towards the end of last season, he couldn't fail to have impressed him with what I saw anyway.

Wasn't there somethign about Bikey being late for training now and then? And haven't we built new changing roms at Gawthorpe to respond to players grumping about having to shower on the Turf? Was this somehow connected with B's time on the bench? I sense that Eddie is a stronger leader and disciplinarian than his angel face may suggest. I suspect he hd to step in to a quite complex psychology last year, and I sense he may be getting close to making his mark.
Couch Potato
Where did you get that rumour from re Symes, afcb4life? Can find nowt on net
turfmanphil
Cant see anything in this one, weakening our weak area to strengthen our strong doesnt make sense. I think we did well with the Laffs deal first time round and personally wouldnt want him back for any great fee
Claretdale
Im with VR...... Bikey best player at the club for me by a country mile
hollinsclaret
Agreed, providing they don't mess with his head and tell him he's a midfielder!!
