Rumour Mill-Burnley Linked With Kearns

Skysports.com are reporting that they understand a number of Championship clubs including the Clarets are tracking 19 year old attacking midfielder Dundalk star Daniel Kearns.

Blackpool, Derby and Peterborough have also been linked.

Dundalk are thought unlikely to stand in Kearns' way and it is reported that he would be keen to return to England.

He came through West Ham's youth team after joining them in July 2007. Kearns signed for Dundalk in May 2010 after being released by the Hammers.

Kearns has represented Northern Ireland in the European U17 Championship qualifiers in March 2008 but the Belfast-born player then switched allegiances to the Republic of Ireland representing them at U19, U21 and U23 levels.

Definitely sounds very interesting and fits the profile "young, cheap, good prospect, probably accept reasonable wages" but when are we going to get after some proven quality? I reckon the Board have dug their heels in and it is a no, no, to spending real money.

Oh, and these Irishmen who come from nowhere, I can never get out of my head a certain Jimmy Mac, head and shoulders the best player I ever saw wearing a burnley shirt, bar none.

Come to think of it Jimmy Mac could even be the best player to ever wear claret and blue for any club, giving Bobby Moore a run for his money. Got me reminiscing this one, forgive an old codger.

Player. I can't think myself. I'm just trying to recall whether any Villain player is in the same league as Jimmy Mac and Mooro. I can't think of one.

Greatest Claret villain: Bob Lord? Biggest Claret duffer: van der Schaaf? But still no-one can think of a truly great Villa player. Intersting. Didn't they win the European Cup? (That's Champions League for anyone under a certain age.) Maybe that's evidence you can achieve great things without throwing the money around?

Andy Lochhead played for Villa 1970-1973 and scored 34 goals in 131 appearances (just under 1-in-4) and he was a League Cup finalist for them in 71! Ill go for him since he was also one of our legends!!

With you Couch on Bob Lord, great Chairman and butcher until he sold his shops and thought he had suddenly become an expert on all things football. Should have stayed a butcher and BFC would have been certain back to back 1st Div champions and who knows what next.
