Carlisle in Loan Talks with Preston

Clarke Carlisle looks set to join Preston on a season-long loan deal.

Eddie Howe confirmed the situation today and said on the Club's official website:

'The club have agreed a deal and now it is up to Clarke to agree things with Preston'

Carlisle, 31 struggled to get into the first-team towards the end of last season with a number of Clarets fans becoming highly critical about his performances.

He still has one year left on his contract but his days at Burnley look to be numbered now should he spend the whole season away from Turf Moor at League 1 Preston.

Howe continued by saying:

'He has been a fantastic servant for the club and I can't speak highly enough about him as a player and a person.

'His attitude and commitment to the cause can never be questioned and if goes, he goes with our best wishes'

The defender and last season's vice-captain was noticeably absent from today's line up in the pre-season friendly at Altrincham fuelling earlier speculation this week that he was about to jump ship and sign for that lot down the M65. It had been thought he might move there on a permanent deal rather than a season-long loan but the end result is still the same. Carlisle is now understood to be in talks with Phil Brown trying to finalise personal terms

A season-long loan? sounds like we will still be part paying his wages then, I would prefer to keep Carlisle and ship Cort out, Leon not Carl ;-)

Well we definitely need a new centre-half now unless we are pinning our hopes on Cort!! Bikey & Edgar could be a good pairing with Duff also in contention. Thought Preston may have gone for Cort since he did OK for them on loan last season by all accounts. The fact they haven't could say a lot!!

Brown told the Evening Post: “We have been in constant contact with Burnley with regards a number of issues." Wonder if Cort is 'another issue'? Can't see them going for Iwelumo on his wages! Let's hope one issue might be Keith Treacy coming t'other way! That's all gone quiet since the Toons entered race although Wiki states '4 clubs, including local rivals Blackpool,Burnley and fellow Championship strugglers Crystal Palace had come in with offers for the winger. However, Preston are now believed to have agreed a fee with an unknown Championship club for winger Treacy, with a move to the capital his preferred destination.'

Could be Palace then, thought they were skint though?

Yep HC. totally agree! We have ferked it up and until Clarets fans realise it and stop looking for excuses and extoling the virtues of a 'small town mentality' board, we always will! Heard today on another board that BK is ready to resign! He has done a lot of good things, but all good things come to an end and I cant wait for a new stance and a new approach!

I actually don't think Carlisle was that bad! On his day, a great centre back and one that could be impressive with his head from set pieces! I suspect a lot of Burnley fans did not like his political stance on Question Time (Lib Dem) nor liked the fact he sounded educated and was perhaps sounding too big for his boots! ( PFA Chairman etc) Small town mentality is catching!!

If that's true tmp, then it will be a sad day for the Clarets, prob the only person willing to put any money back in Kilby, Flood did everything he could to get Cork in his quote not mine, John B what has he done since joining the board?

Well I will tell you for now I would be first to wave him off !! He's been the best Chairman in my time BUT his failings are mounting. Owen Coyle left because of the massive stand up row he had with Kilby about finding £3M quid to sign a player, Kilby had none of it and that was the straw that broke the proverbial camels back for Coyle, In fairness to Coyle he tried to be diplomatic but it was evidentially clear the NO CASH HERE sign was hung on the door. Since that time our spending and approach to putting the right squad together deifies any kind of logic, the fact that we don't own our own ground, training area, or leisure centre after spending zip on players also beggars belief! the appointment of Laws as the replacement for Coyle was a backwards penny pinching step that NO single fan welcomed. It demonstrated to me how out of touch the board had become. The final nails in the coffin are two conspiring recent events: 1) The falling of the ability to sign Jack Cork, knowing how important he was to a pairing with Chris McCann, but move over the signal that this sends to other players, and more importantly the clarets faithful. 2) The admission from the manager yesterday that he "had to move bodies on" to bring others in. This is an absolute admission the the financial constraints on the manager are far worst than many of use can imagine. So this beg',s the question it's the one I'm personally linked to on most on these forums and its sits in two parts. 1 Where is the desire and commitment to use the parachute money on players and wages to launch ourself out of this division 2 )More over where is the money to help us do this where has it gone? why is it not being used effectively This is a much stronger league with Birmingham, West Ham Blackpool, Leicester all going for it ..... If we finished 8th last year and we haven't stretched our resources with regards seriously improving the squad, then where are we going to finish his year? So for me its thanks Barry you stabled the ship, but now we need a new captain to set the course for Premiership Waters, and to be blunt ..... your out of your depth

You are not the only one thinking that HC and I sense there is a lot of unrest at the moment with anger directed at the Board. It could easily spill over if we start playing like plonkers in 2011-12 and calls for resignation may well be the outcome. Still let's see how the squad shapes up on August 6th before we pass too much judgement. It has to be their final chance for me though, four weeks to right all the wrongs so get a move on!!

Howe's statement does make it sound as though there isn't much left in the cupboard. But yes, let's see how we get on this season, and I'm hopeful we're going to do well. Kilby's done a brilliant job as far as I'm concerned, and if he goes who's going to fill his shoes and how much cash will he have ?

Could you clarify HC who the player was BK refused to stump up £3million for? Hopefully it was a defender, in that everyone at the time thought that was what was needed, not another attacking-no-tackle player like Guerrero. (Where's he now?) . Also, on what basis do you regard Bham as such a threat? Isn't their squad falling apart? Will they be able to move forward while thier major shareholder is in a law suit? (I also note that tmp has picked Derby as his team to be promoted in the VB prediction leaague. I mentioned this to my Ram b-in-law yesterday. He cracked up. Apparently Rams are even more p**d off the HC and TMP put together and doubled (AND I AM NOT EXAGGERATING, its not allowed on here :-) ). Apparently the Ram bleating is so loud that their Chairman is offering Ram season ticket holders thier money back if they don't like the new signings.)
