New signings at last

So there we have it. the first signings of the new season and we have three of them.

Defenders Jack Errington and Luke Conlan and striker Jason Gilchrist have been taken on as first-year scholars.

So hopefully the flood gates are now open and we will have a few more signings soon

Saw this and hoped this was not the flurry of activity at the end of June. Awaiting tomorrow with anticipation but not holding my breath..

Yeah LET reporting McCann to pen before Friday, you could see a heads up type meeting with players tomorrow rather than a full blown training session, not sure how far the facilities have got both at gawthorpe and the turf gym, but i couldn't see Eddie having players reporting for training if their presence creates negativity. Come on CM do the deal you know it makes sense!
hollinsclaret
McCann back from Ireland yesterday, reports for training today and signs tomorrow, just doesn't make sense (tic) why didn't he sign whilst he was away on holiday and in Ireland so posters could moan about something else......and why didn't we publicly declare we thought he would sign tomorrow so we can look foolish and a laughing stock....So if he signs tomorrow will you think: a. Great signing and just what we need? or b. Why did it take so long, we are the laughing stock for not being able to get him to sign. or c. Knew he was leaving all along.
VinRogue
Thinks it b for me VR his agent trying to get him a Prem Club or a top Championship Club but with no takers, we should have given him the best deal we could afford with a take it or leave it time scale. I still say we will need to move some players on before we see some new faces at the Club.
Fedupclaret
fedup - Maybe we have given him the best deal we could afford?
Claretdale
If thats the case dale its up to him but we cannot let it drag on, but i would hope his deal is in line with the likes of Iwelumo, Cort and Alexander. I see players like McCann as the future of the Club not the three mentioned and are these players in EH plans.
Fedupclaret
Agree Fedup - 100%. Mccann is hopefully with us for a number of years and is very important to out plans. He should be right up there as one of the clubs top earners. I agree we do not want it to drag on and tieing the deal up ASAP is the ideal scenario.

If, as seems probable given the reduced TV money and the determination by FL clubs to live within their means, we are now in a new era of smaller player salaries, this will throw up some anomalies when comparisons are made with players whose contracts were sealed in the past. I mean, can you imagine Hull's bright new stars asking to have their salaries on a par with Jimmy Bullard's dinosaur 45,000 per week? Obviously that is, and always was, an absurd example. But different lines will now need to be drawn, and discussed with thought and care between clubs and players, and everyone will need to think a little bit longer - and longer term - than in the past, thinking about their personal values and the stability of their livelihood, as well as the number of zeroes attached to their weekly take home. They may also choose to dwell on how lucky they are when so many people in other professions are experiencing much worse setbacks, and being put in positions of serious struggle. Whatever Iwelumo and Cort are on today, they'll be on something very different on their next contracts, and I would guess that the chances of them being with Bfc at that stage are not currently that great. It may well be that, in this new brave new world where clubs don't just equate the route to success with the signing of ever bigger salary cheques, that we the fans hear less about what people are actually earning. I have no info on what Chris has been offered. But if Eddie is confident Chris will sign very soon, so am I. I wish Chris well whatever he does. I certainly hope it will be to show himself as a leader in training camp, and getting other clubs - and his international boss - looking at him in awe as he has an injury free season and fires up up the league table.

Well, that was very nice! I just finished my latest long ramble, went into the forums on this site, and there was a new thread put up by skutter - where've you been skutter? - saying CHRIS MCCANN SIGNS. And YES! it's on the official club site. Get in there! Good lad Chris. My hero! Up the Clarets!!!!
Couch Potato
Totally agree CP with everthing you said, and like you great news he's signed again for us. And just for the record i was not having a go at the three players i mentioned and what they get paid just thought McCann should be on the same dosh.
Fedupclaret
Always knew he'd sign. :-) Now for Cork.
WelshClaret
Alex MacDonald has also signed to stay on for another year.
Couch Potato
Great signing as good as any player in this leauge. NEXT ON THE RADAR JACK CORK !
hollinsclaret
ClaretsPlayer is promising an exclusive interview tomorrow with Tyrone Mears. Now if that should reveal that Tyrone is happy and positive and motivated, who isn't? Anybody?
Couch Potato
Fedup - I got your point and agreed with it - Chris Mc should be one of our higher earners.
