Rumour Mill-Tyrone for Bolton? Mears the Pity

Bolton manager Owen Coyle looks set to make a 400,000 move for Tyrone Mears according to the Sunday Mirror today.

Mears' contract still has a year to run but there is no sign yet of Burnley wanting to extend the contract at this stage although it is thought the club are keen to retain him.

The right back has missed just two league games since signing for the Clarets in June 2009 and would appear to be vital to Eddie Howe's plans. 400,000 would certainly be seen as a derogatory bid, at least I hope it would and indeed the speculation itself could be dodgy. Sloppy journliasm is all too easy these days and linking Burnley players with former gaffers, would seem the easiest way to fuel rumours in the first place. Cue Coyle denying interest!

This has got to be so ridiculous and has to be laughable. If journalists want to lie, which they frequently do, at least the lies should be somewhere near credible.

Daily Mail now saying-Owen Coyle is poised to raid former club Burnley in a 400,000 bid for full back Tyrone Mears. The 28-year-old is in his final year at Turf Moor and has indicated he would like to return to the Premier League, with Bolton the clear favourites. Burnley are likely to agree reluctantly to sell the former Derby defender.

Bloody great, not bad for a club that has gone down stronger, told the fans we dont have to sell now and now look like they could sell Mears for a pittance! Summat wrong somewhere, time for a change at the top methinks before we continue to stagnate!!

I can't believe Spurs look set to lose Modric to Chelsea, West Ham Demba Ba to Newcastle and what about Sunderland not being able to keep Bent when Villa came calling.....makes Mears with one year left on his contract attracting interest very plausable to me. On form he is one of my favourite players but his body languange since Coyle left has been telling imo. 1.5 million with a few add on clauses taking it to 2m and its a reluctant sell from me.

400k is way too low or him! Like VR said let him go for nothing less than 1.5 mil.

If he wants to go, so be it, but we need to be able to get like for like with the money. Any ideas on the sort of quality for 400k, in my opinion not a lot. 1.5 million we may have some sort of chance, but then only if the Board would want to spend it on a player. Bad feelings have descended on my deckchair.

On several occasions last season it seemed as though there was a squad psychology problem that was keeping us a bit below where we felt we should be. A few folk, including VR, pointed to questions about leadership. But I've heard on a grapevine of quite good credentials that there was a small group of players whose heads were not in the right place. It's been said in some parts that Thommo was one. It's been suggested in others that Tyrone might be another. If so - and I would stress that I have no confirmation of this, and I aplogise to TYrone if I am talking nonsense - then we need to look at the bigger picture, rather than worry about individuals. Also, it's interesting that, although people talk about Tyrone like he's one our best ever right backs, no-one ever has anything to say about his defensive capabilities. Great? Above par? Below par? I'd certainly hope we get more than 400k if indeed he's one that does need to go. Cornwall - I'd keep your feet up, but maybe see if someone can refresh your drink?

Kasper Schmeichal (spelling lol) left Leeds for Leicester if only tmp was a Leeds fan he could question the Boards ability to retain players, sanity, going up stronger etc etc. Sadly I think Kasper has gone for the money option and possibly better promotion odds. Couch I think you maybe right and all the dressing room bitterness started when Coyle and the staff moved offices to Horwich.

I made the decision many moons ago , not to take everything written in a newspaper as gospel , wise decision as it turns out !!

There's a lot of nonsense flying around at the moment, largely because there's a lack of 'real' action going on for the press to write about. So what do they do when there's nothing to report ? Yep, that's right, they trundle out a load of b******s as they always do. I'm with Bernie Lee , ignore it all .

Ignore it at your peril, the odd one has an element of truth about it. The trick is to decide which ones might be true! In the meantime just enjoy the speculation and comment on the players credentials without being beaten up about it! ;-)
