Rumour Mill-Hammers Enter Cork Race

West Ham are the latest club to enter the race to sign Chelsea's Jack Cork.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Turf Moor of course and all Clarets fans are hoping and praying Burnley could secure a permanent deal for the impressive England Under 21 midfielder.

It is thought Chelsea would be willing to let him go for 750,000 although it has been speculated that higher offers may have been put in by our rivals for his signature.

National newspaper reports suggesting he is set to join the Saints for 1million could though be wide of the mark especially when there was also a suggestion he would be offered a reported 15,000 a week. That sort of wage it is thought would scupper Burnley's chances of signing him becuase it would far exceed their precious slary cap, even though he is exceptional quality and wants to play for the Clarets.

Both newly-relegated Championship club Blackpool and newly promoted Championship club Southampton are thought to be our main rivals but with West Ham entering the race auuming the rumour is true, we shall just have to see whether Cork remains loyal to Burnley or whether he might be tempted by more lucrative offers from the other contenders.

Cork could be keen to simply move across London and join Sam Allardyce's new-look squad although then again he has previously indicated he would be happy to stay in the North of England and play for the Clarets on a permanent basis.

It could be some time until we finally know who Jack will be playing for next season. He is currently in Denmark with the England Under 21 squad ahead of the European Championship finals and it not thought any deal will be struck until he returns.

Eddie Howe and Operational Director, Brendan Flood though appear to be working hard behind the scenes to try and sign him and it is understood they are in discussions with the player's representatives and Chelsea. Howe said recently:

'We are talking to his representatives and to Chelsea and we will have to wait and see what happens'

Just get him signed lads!!

Is this club really saying they are not prepared to pay Cork 15,000 a week? I beleive Iwelumo was on something like that. Beggar's belief if we losing out on him due to a salary cap technicality

Is our alleged salary cap higher than Blackpool's? Seem to think it might be. Hammers would probably have the edge over us in terms of what hey pay, though presumably they're just spending now the money they reckon they're going to get for Parker later. It's beginning to get a bit edgy.

I am led to believe they are significantly reducing the salary cap this season and I have heard they are talking about a ridiculously low 7-8k/week. No idea what Blackpool's lot will be on. It is all bollox though! Surely we can pay higher for players of exceptional talent like Cork. Other players would have to accept to get more above cap they would have to prove they can play to same quality. Seems fair to me unless you are happy to Cork go to the likes of Saints (get out of jail, admin who?), Blackpool (no spend,go down like us) or West Ham (big players to sell, when we bought bugger all)

This cock up is laid directly at the BFC BOARDS DOOR... here I go again I know!.... but who in their right mind allows a player like Jack Cork to stay on loan without sealing a deal before now? he's been here 18 bloody months guys.... If we loose Jack I will yet again point the finger at this complaisant board! I don't give a dam how many of you defend them, they are not good enough, simples...... a steady teller hand yes ..... but quite frankly this approach constrains the club and throttles the life out of us... why cant you see people?. ....Think about it this way, if you were a salesman ( as I am) and you sat in your annual appraisal with your boss and you had not secured a deal with one of the most important parts of the plan, you'd probably been engineered out of the business for you complacent incompitance! This board new Jack was a valuable asset , all they did was bank on not spending the cash and getting as much out of the loan deal as they could without spending owt.... well hello Brendan and Barry this has just come right back at you, its not biting you on the arse ... it's chewing your arse off ..... now get you bloody wallet out ( IN FACT GET OUR WALLET OUT) and get you you incompitant tight fisted arses in gear and sign some players NOW..... were all getting very p*ssed off with you !!!! and whilst were on it WHERE'S THE MONEY !!

There certainly seems to be more anger about the place regarding the Board. I am certainly expecting far better than previous tight-fisted seasons and associated lack of true ambition but I wont make a final judgement till I see the new squad line up just before we play Watford in opener. One thing really hacks me off though, all the benefit of a season in the top flight and I cant see any benefit whatsoever. As you say Mike where has the money (our money) gone?
turfmanphil
Wow, all this passion, and here's me on previous advice sat in my deckchair just being optomistic.

England U21 defeated 2-1 by Czech Rep tonight so they are on their way home! Cork did not feature at all in Denmark but now at least things should be quickly sorted out! Come on Burnley DO NOT let him slip through your fingers!!!
turfmanphil
Please, please, please can the Board revive my hopes on their ambition. Jack Cork would be a steal at the sort of money being bandied about, he wants to play for us and could become an ever present for a long time.
cornwallclaret
Totally agree CC! This is a mega-deal the club have to sort out, it will mean so much for the fans faith in the Club's ambition

Watford can't keep their manager, Leeds lose the best keeper, Birmingham lose McLeish and we can't get the blinkers off...Calm down peeps, take a walk round Gawthorpe and then Brockhall, Carrow Road, Bloomfield and the Turf, check out the Board room players too, Venkys etc. We do not have the borrowing power of a wealthy backer to bank roll the club if we start spending our promised riches on JUST players and WAGES and refuse to accept the infrastructure needs work too.
