Treacy? Are Thunderbirds Go Then or Not?

Vital Burnley already reported a few days ago that Burnley had made a casual enquiry for Preston left-winger, Keith Treacy

If you want to be reminded about the background to this, feel free to read our earlier article by clicking this link:

Keith Treacy and the Casual Enquiry!

Speculation then grew in the local media this week that Burnley had stepped up the casual enquiry and may even have made an offer for the 22 year old Republic of Ireland international.

Now it's all quiet on the Western front again with no denials or confirmation from either club that another more formal approach has been made by Eddie Howe.

Suzanne Geldard writing for the Lancashire Telegraph on Friday wrote:

'I understand subsequent contact has had more substance as Howe looks to add to his left-sided options'

Keith Treacy though himself feels that playing in League 1 would not enhance his career prospects:

"I feel maybe the Championship or the Premiership at a push would be ideal for me. I think I`m a little bit better than League One if I`m being honest'

The former Blackburn Rovers winger has also been speaking to Preston gaffer, Phil Brown and revealed:

"We had a meeting and he`s just put a price on my head and said, 'if it gets met, all well and good, we won`t hold you back`.

"We`ll have to wait and see now if a club is interested or what`s going to happen but I`m hopeful because I want to play at the highest level I possibly can."

Will that club be the Clarets? Well we could have a fight on our hands to get him if the words of Preston Chairman, Maurice Lindsay are anything to go by. This week he told the LT:

'We will only be letting players go if it suits us," said Lindsay

"I would be totally against Keith Treacy leaving, he is such an exciting player on the ball and can be a prolific goalscorer from the wing when he`s on form."

Treacy and Wallace at Turf Moor plus Grezza? How things have changed when it always used to be Preston buying our players and beating us to our own targets! Never mind Knobbers you can always have Cort and Iwleumo with our blessing!

It would appear an issue with any deal to secure Treacy’s signature is a 40 per cent sell-on fee due to former club Blackburn Rovers. North End are said to require upwards of £1.5 million in order for the deal to be financially viable their end. Clubs linked with Treacy as well as Burnley include Ipswich, Wigan and Blackpool

Heard a rumor that he, shall we say, likes to party. Which by all account was the reason for his dip in form later in the season. Preston maybe not that upset to see him go

Bit worried we are after another winger we already have three at the club and yet with the possiblity of losing out on two of our best players McCann and Cork so lets sort them first. Before anyone jumps down my throat i know Cork belongs to another Club its just he's been hear that long if feels like our player.

I remember thinking, after Treacy's goal last season on the Turf, that we'd bought the wrong PNE left winger. But at this stage, I am not so sure he's worth £1.5 million. If it were possible, would anyone want to swap or part exchange him for Wallace? Meanwhile I am curious how this 'linked with' thing gets started. Two journos sitting on a virtual bench; one says something off the top of their head, the other notes the link? Or maybe an agent wannabe sends speculative details of the player round LinkedIn or some other over-priced and sadly over here Web2 getrichquickbutnotyousir scheme from California?

Rules of journalism. If you don't give a statement we'll make one up. If we have no story we'll make one up. If the story sells papers it must be true. I am sure there are many more I could thing of but I have an appointment on the first tee.
