Rumour Mill-A Clarets Friend?

The Clarets are one of three clubs along with Championship rivals Crystal Palace and Leeds that have been linked with an interest in Doncaster Rovers defender and midfielder, George Friend.

The 23 year old started his career with Exeter City and during his time on the books of the Devon club also had spells out on loan to non-league clubs, Tiverton Town and Team Bath.

His big break came when he moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers, then in the Championship in September 2008.

Friend signed a two-year contract for an initial fee of £350,000 but made just seven appearances for Wolves during those two years

He also spent most of this time out on loan including spells at Millwall, Southend, Scunthorpe and his original club, Exeter. It was perhaps no surprise when his contract was not extended at the end of the 2009-10 season.

Last summer Doncaster Rovers came in and made him an offer and he agreed a two year deal.

Friend is equally comfortable both on the left side midfield, at left back and in the centre of defence so is quite a useful utility player to have on the books especially with a small squad.

It is understood Leeds though are now in pole position to sign the player.

Not sure about this one. If he's settled in Yorkshire, Leeds will obviously have the edge. At least Barnsley aint after him!! ;-)

Would not be an inspiring signing for me. Edgar is more than capable of being Mr Utility player.
