There has been plenty of speculation this week regarding Eddie Howe's targets but at least one of the potential players on his radar appears to have been confirmed.
Preston North End Chairman, Maurice Lindsay confirmed this week that Eddie Howe had made a 'casual enquiry' regarding their winger, Keith Treacy.
"We had a casual enquiry from Burnley about Keith," said the North End chairman'
"It was a lightweight enquiry really, asking about his situation.
"As I`ve said before, we won`t let players leave this club unless it suits us."
It looks like that could be the end of the matter and Howe will move on but it all makes for interesting reading and gives the Clarets a flavour of the areas that Howe wishes to strengthen. Do we need a new winger or are they edging their bets in case Chris Eagles becomes a Premier League player? Of course we may never know but Treacy is certainly a talented player and he may think himself it is time to move on following Preston's relegation to League 1 at the end of last season.
The 22 year old Republic of Ireland international left winger is of course a former Blackburn Rovers player which would go down well with the Clarets faithful should we sign him! He did however only make 22 appearances for the club and spent most of his time at Ewood Park out on loan. He had spells at both Stockport County and Sheffield United.
Treacy signed a two-and-a-half year contract with Preston North End in February 2010
The Chairman's remark suggests they will try and hold onto Treacy but a number of clubs seem to have been tracking the player as well as Burnley. Championship rivals Hull,Ipswich and Nottingham Forest are also all reported to be interested.
One media report also suggested the Clarets have already had a bid of £800,000 turned down. It is thought £1 million however could be enough to tempt Preston who are in deep financial trouble following their relegation. They will certainly want to get the best price for the player but it is understood manager, Phil Brown will not stand in the player`s way should he wish to play at a higher level than League 1.
