'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Thompson returns home

Former Burnley striker Steven Thompson has agreed a two-year contract with his boyhood club, St Mirren.

Thompson expressed a desire to return to Scotland when his daughter was going to start school.

He told the club's official website, "It has been a life-long ambition of mine to play for St Mirren as they were my first love in football. It will be a brilliant moment for me when I pull on a Saints jersey for the first time and I`m really looking forward to it."

'I did have interest from other clubs in Scotland and a few in England as well but once I decided to come back to Scotland I told my agent that there was only place I wanted to go and thankfully that is happening.

'I'm really delighted that the move to St Mirren has come together and I can't wait to get started.'

Good luck to the lad. His two daughters running around the Turf during the lap of honour brought a smile to my face. As, for ever, will the memory of his strike at the Madejski. Sadly I only say that from the couch, but I did see his two goals in our last 2 games of our PL year.

Sad to see him go :( But after reading an artical I think his mrs wanted to go back north of the border for their kids. Fair play to him & hope he sets the SPL alight.
