Rumour Mill-Forssell For Sure?

The Sunday tabloids have fuelled speculation today that Eddie Howe could have 30 year old Finnish international striker Mikael Forssell on his radar.

Forssell currently plies his trade with Bundesliga side,Hannover 96 having spent the last three seasons in Germany. He joined the club on a free transfer in June 2008 from Birmingham City.

He started his career with Finnish club, HJK where as a youth at the age of just 17 he caught the eye of Chelsea joining the Blues in 1998. He found it hard to establish himself in the first team at Stamford Bridge and spent most of his time there out on loan. Forssell had spells at Crystal Palace (2 spells), Borussia Mönchengladbach and Birmingham City(2 spells).

Forssell joined Birmingham permanently on a three-year deal for a fee of £3 million in the summer of 2005. Following Brum's relegation to the Championship, in May 2008 he signed a pre-contract agreement to join Hannover 96 on a free transfer when his Birmingham contract expired at the end of June.

He is now a free agent since his contract with Hannover ran out at the end of the 2010-11 season.

This speculation does not inspire me with much confidence. If it's true I am not convinced a 30 year old striker with just 7 goals from 44 apperances for Hannover is what we need!

Does not seem to fit the bill with Howe if its true that howe wants younger players, think he will be waiting to see what players he can off load and whether McCann and Cork will be Burnley players.

Does not seem to fit at all. His age suggests he will not get any better and he has not exactly been an exeptional performer so far. Only attribute seems to be that he will be cheap, seems to fit the Board's current thinking.

Howe has said he wants a younger squad yes - but this doesnt mean he will ONLY sign young players. We do need a few experienced heads amongst the squad aswell. Do tend to agree with TMP though, the goals return mention does not excite me - although i did rate him when he first came onto the scene with Chelsea
