Rumour Mill-Vincelot or Not a Lot?

A number of Championship clubs including Burnley are understood to be preparing a bid for Dagenham & Redbridge's attacking midfielder Romain Vincelot. Millwall, Reading, Ipswich, Norwich and Watford are also thought to be amongst the clubs keen on the 25 year old Frenchman in addition to League 1 club, Charlton.

Vincelot has become one of the most dangerous midfielders in League 1 despite being initally signed as a right back and has scored 12 goals for the Daggers since signing for them in January 2010.

The former Chamois Niortais and FC Gueugnon player has just over 12 months left on his current contract.

Boy, I have missed the hectic Summer Rumour Mill!! ;-) First one so far and he don't sound too bad but do we need another midfielder? Probably yes, if there is to be some culling in the summer

Hope this is just a rumour and that we have more ambitious signings than this in mind.

Bit harsh, that, Twickers. Players such as Shane Long and so forth at Reading have come from the lower divisions, and even players like Charlie Adam were "rejected" and have proved their worth at at high level. I know nothing about this guy, but if Eddie thinks he's good enough, that's good enough for me...

No problem with that and I agree that plenty of decent players have emerged from the lower leagues over the years. As a non-league regular in my earlier days I used to follow one of mates who played semi-pro and I know there are plenty of hidden gems at that level too. Happy to trust our management team to do the right thing but there is nothing to say that Eddie Howe is interested in Vincelot. I've seen him play a couple of times and, whilst I'm only giving a personal opinion, I just don't think he is what we are looking for at the moment.

TBH, I don't like all these rumours, as many are started by agents or reporters. If you've seen him and don't think he's what we're looking for, then fair enough. I haven't seen him, so it's all conjecture from me!

I love the rumours to be honest, without them forums would be a dull place especially in summer! The trick is to try and guess which are tosh (includes agent/paper bollox) and which have an element of truth! Some do as we know

One of the best "unknowns" to be signed I can remember was Peter Beardsley when he was dug out from obscurity in Canada.
