Rumour Mill-The Adam Smith Institute in Burnley?

Do Burnley have an interest in Spurs right-back Adam Smith? Well there is a connection with Eddie Howe having signed him on loan for Bournemouth before becoming Burnley manager in January. Smith(pictured on the right of the photograph)has been with Bournemouth since September after agreeing a loan initially for a month with the deal subsequently then being extended until the end of the season. Tne Cherries themselves are interested in signing the player and AFC Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell has confirmed that an offer has been made to sign him at the end of the season.

There have been rumours this week though that they will face competition with Burnley, one of three Championship clubs along with Reading and Ipswich who may have also offered him contracts for next season.

Smith came through the youth ranks at Spurs and has won England caps at U16, U19 and U20 levels. The London-born defender has though been unable to break into the Tottenham first team although he was on the bench for their UEFA Cup games against NEC Nijmegen and Shakhtar Donetsk during the 2008/09 season.

He has been out on loan a few times having previously had spells at both Wycombe Wanderers and Torquay. Smith played for Wycombe between August and October 2009, making four full appearances. He then spent the rest of that season at Torquay, where he made 18 starts. The 19-year-old`s contract at White Hart Lane is up in the summer.
